Sexy Zone is a 5-member boyband from Johnny & Associates, Inc. According to the CEO, Johnny Kitagawa the group's name came from "Michael Jackson's sexiness" and the members were chosen based on the concept of "the sexiness of men". They made their debut in 2011 as special supporters of the FIVB World Cup with the self-titled single, "Sexy Zone". They were the 5th Johnny's group to debut this way. At the time of their debut they were the youngest group in the agency's history, having an average age of about 14. They were also the first Johnny's group to include a member who is half-Japanese as the youngest member of the group, Marius is German on his father's side. Prior to the group's debut, members Kento and Fuma were active as part of the group B.I. Shadow while Shori, Sou, and Marius were members of the group Ja(PA)Nese(HI)!

In 2014, two sub-units to Sexy Zone known as Sexy Boys and Sexy Show were announced (although Sexy Boys was active since 2012 under the name Sexy Boyz). They were led by members, Marius and Sou respectively and each included several members of Johnny's Jr. who frequently danced back-up for Sexy Zone in PVs and concerts. Sexy Zone, Sexy Boys, and Sexy Show were collectively known as Sexy Family and their songs would occasionally be featured on Sexy Zone's albums. Marius and Sou's activity within Sexy Zone began to decrease and they were temporarily removed from the group. In late 2015 though, they returned to Sexy Zone and the sub-groups are believed to be disbanded.
