Tamaki Nami should be no stranger to anime fans, rising to stardom with Believe, the song used in the Japanese animation, Gundam SEED, which got her into the limelight in no time.
Nami was one of the winners of the 18th Annual Japan Gold Disc Award's New Artist of the Year, thus, the term "stardom" should not be used lightly in the first sentence. She definitely has a bright future ahead of her as she is still very young, being born in 1988. She is also backed by Sony, meaning she obviously has an apparent unlimited funding.
Sony sent Nami, along with other Sony artists such as T.M.Revolution, to perform at several anime conventions in 2004. Her songs are generally very upbeat and supported with a strong dance choreography as can be seen from her PVs. Nami's second album Make Progress has claimed the No.1 spot on the Oricon Charts for the daily albums on the first day of its release! Nami's third album, Speciality, was released in July 12th, 2006.
As stated earlier, Tamaki Nami is known for her strong dancing, which has cast doubt on her natural ability as a singer. Many Youtube viewers have expressed concerns over whether her voice is really hers in the recorded tracks. Her live performances, whilst in addition to requiring her to perform choreographed dancing found in her PVs, also require her to sing the entire song. Many viewers have noted that her pitch is off and does not sound like the recorded single. However, fans of hers have dismissed as her being merely breathless from all the dancing, and hence unable to hit the exact note as heard on the pre-recorded singles.
