Members of AKB48's international sister group will be allowed to participate in the group's annual Senbatsu General Election for the first time.
The group announced its decision via SHOWROOM on March 19 while discussing details about this year's election.
Specifically, members from JKT48, BNK48 and TPE48 will be allowed to put themselves forward as candidates.
Prior to this year, only members of AKB48's sister groups based in Japan and members who had transferred to international groups were allowed to participate in the election.
In years past, the top 80 members were ranked for the Senbatsu General Election. This year, the list will expand to 100 members, with ranks 81 - 100 forming its own unit.
Members interested in participating in the Senbatsu General Election will be able to put themselves forward as candidates between March 23 - March 27. Voting will take place may 29 - June 15. The results will be revealed on June 16.
