GEM Sets Disbandment Date

GEM has announced that it will be disbanding on March 31.

The group made its announcement on January 15 on its official website. Further details about the group's activities leading up to its official disbandment will be released later this week.

The announcement comes a day after Nikkan Sports broke the story that GEM would be disbanding in the spring.

The decision to disband comes a month after the group's activities were put on hold. Group members Maho Iyama and Rana Murakami had violated their contracts, leading to their indefinite suspension, followed by the cancellation of the group's activities.

On March 25, GEM will be holding a farewell concert in Tokyo at Yamano Hall. This is expected to be the group's final activity before disbanding.

GEM is the 3rd group to come out of the iDOL Street project from Avex. The group formed in December 2012 and released its debut single "We're GEM!" on January 1, 2014.

I honestly don't think that it's fair to disband the whole group because of 2 members' mistakes. Yes, I know that they were the lead vocalists, but they could always get new members. It's not fair for GEMILY and the members themselves who worked so hard to get to where they are.

Also, Maaya said she would be there for their final live and will be flying out from LA.

Anyways, I wish the girls the best in their future endeavors.
