AKB48 To Form Sister Group MUM48 In Mumbai, India

AKB48 will be forming a new international sister group named MUM48 based out of Mumbai, India.

On December 27, a special SHOWROOM program was released featuring AKB48's general manager Yui Yokoyama. The idol announced the group's intentions to form the new sister group.

MUM48's color will be a light green which is said to represent India's growth and energy.

This will be AKB48's 6th international sister group. There are currently 4 other international groups: JKT48 in Jakarta, BNK48 in Bangkok, TPE48 in Taipei, and MNL48 in Manila. A sister group is also planned for Shanghai.

No date has been set for the construction of a theater or auditions to join the group.

I hope not. Considering AKB48 is a terrible group (and I'm not talking about just the music, but the business and cultural practice surrounding them as well).

I do agree that the concept of idol groups is problematic. I used to like a lot of AKB48's music but now I much prefer the 46 groups. Anyway, I don't approve of how rapidly sister groups are being formed. I'm not sure if it's still Aki-P making all the new groups or if it's AKS management, but it seems unnecessary to be expanding so fast.

Yea I agree, considering I read something about one of the sister groups just finally debuting a music video and some controversy around the original video being deleted.
