Oricon has released its list of the top 10 breakout artists of 2017.
The media outlet surveyed 1000 males and females ages 10 - 59 asking who they thought were the breakout artists of the year. The results were published on November 30.
Topping the list was Kenshi Yonezu, formerly known as Hachi. The singer has been active since 2013, but this year he was involved in 3 popular songs. The first was "orion" which was the theme song to "March Comes in like a Lion", followed by "Peace Sign" which was the theme song to "My Hero Academia". Finally, he was featured on the popular DOAKO song "Uchiage Hanabi".
TWICE was second on the list, with the group more popular among younger people. The group gained attention for its "TT" pose prior to making its official debut in Japan. The viral nature of its popularity propelled it to breakout status.
