SKE48 Employee Steals ¥3.9 Million From Group
An employee working for SKE48 was arrested for attempting to steal money from the group during its latest handshake event.

Ryota Kawabata, a 21-year-old male from Kawaguchi City and an employee for the group, entered a restricted area after seeing the money. He stole approximately ¥3.9 million ($32,400 USD) from the group.

SKE48 was holding a handshake event on December 14 in Osaka. The money stolen was made off the sale of the group's CDs and merchandise during the event.

A 34-year-old male staff member caught Kawabata stealing the money. He chased Kawabata for approximately 300 meters before apprehending him.

According to police, Kawabata admitted to the theft. "I thought that if I were to take the money I could use it to pursue hobbies," Kawabata is quoted as saying.
