Jane Zhang Accuses MTV Of Discrimination
Despite winning the award for Best World Act of the Asia region at the 2015 MTV EMAs, Jane Zhang was forced to accept her award backstage only, prompting the singer to accuse them of discrimination.

Zhang flew out to Milan to attend the 2015 MTV EMAs where she had won an award. Although she expected to accept the award on stage, when she arrive at the event, she was told that she'd only be allowed backstage to accept it.

According to event organizers, Zhang was not permitted to accept her award on stage because the other recipients of the award did not attend the event. Without everyone in attendance, all the World Act winners could not accept it together, and thus those who came could only be award backstage.

"We cannot accept this treatment which was seriously unfair and discriminative, so we decided to officially pull out of the award’s red carpet ceremony and all other activities of EMA," Zhang's agency Show City Times said in a statement after the incident.

Previous winners of the award, including Han Geng, Chris Lee, and Zhou Bi Chang, were all allowed to accept their award on stage in past years. Justin Beiber, winner of the Best World Act for North America at this year's MTV EMAs, was allowed to accept his award on stage.

Despite the controversy surrounding the acceptance of the award, Zhang took to Weibo to thank her fans who had voted for her to win the award. Netizens responded positively to the singer's actions.
