Yasushi Akimoto Announces Plans To Start AKB48 Sister Groups In Okinawa & Manila
AKB48's general manager Yasushi Akimoto announced that he plans on starting new AKB48 sister groups in Okinawa, Japan and Manila, Philippines.

Akimoto made the announcement during the November 24 broadcast of AKB Radio on Bay FM. During the program, he mentioned not only Okinawa and Manila, but also previously discussed sister groups in Taipei and Hokkaido.

AKB48's Manila sister group could become the group's 3rd international sister group, with JKT48 being based in Jakarta, Indonesia, and SNH48 being based out of Shanghai, China.

Plans for a sister group based out of Taipei, Taiwan were first announced October of 2011. There has been little discussion of the group's formation since auditions were postponed in 2012, though Akimoto still intends on forming TPE48 at some point.

Akimoto first announced plans to start an AKB48 sister group in the Hokkaido region of Japan during June of 2014.
