AKB48's Mayu Watanabe Suffers Acute Tonsillitis
AKB48 member Mayu Watanabe has suffered acute tonsillitis, causing her to temporarily take a break from group activities.

Watanabe's condition was disclosed on AKB48's official blog on October 30. The idol began experiencing symptoms earlier this week and was sent to the hospital for a diagnosis.

Because of her acute tonsillitis, Watanabe will be taking 10 days off from group activities. She will be using this time to rest and recover from the disease.

"To all of my fans, I'm sorry and apologize for any concerns I have caused," the idol said when her condition was revealed.

Tonsillitis is an inflammation of the tonsils. The vast majority of people who get tonsillitis recover within a week, even without medication.
