Amber Josephine Liu was born September 18, 1992 in Los Angeles, California to Taiwanese parents (her father is of Teochew descent) and is the youngest (Jackie Liu is her older sister). She attended El Camino Real High School before auditioning for SM Entertainment in 2008 as a singer. She was cast and sent to Korea for training and debuted in 2009 in the then 5 member girl group F(x). Many of their songs were also composed by Amber herself.
After releasing albums and singles under F(x), Amber finally debuted as a solo artist on the side in 2015, with the self composed album titled 「Shake That Brass」which is also the title song. The MV of the title track included many of her entertainer friends and featured labelmate Taeyon from Girls Generation/SNSD. The album itself also featured friend and singer Eric Nam.
After the release of 「Shake That Brass」, she has released many singles as well.
When she's not working, she can often be found recording things for her YouTube channels What The Pineapple as well as live streaming on Instagram with friends and her sister. She has appeared in several Buzzfeed videos and other videos on YouTube.
