ahhhh you are back :) TOO much time no see :)

When will you know the results of the italian exams?? I'm curious :) And I'm really pretty sure that you did a good job!

Hmm you'll have exams in 2 weeks? I know you don't celebrate christmas, but you don't do really nothing on that day?? like.. exchanging gifts or so?? Nowaday, Christmas is more like a commercial day than a religious day... I thought that everyone uses that day to make and recieve gifts ^^

Ouch I picked the worst sentence possibile lol
So "của" is "of" and "của em" is "your"
    While "đôi" is "pair"
    Right?
So i have to say.. "Your pair of eyes is beautiful"?? LOL kinda weird, yeah :)
And the classifier is omitted?? or "đôi" works as classifier too? It looks more like a quantifier :D
It's nice how i can make questions like i really know what i'm talking about lol

I'm glad you liked the song, i don't know why but i really wanted to make you listen to it :p

I don't know too much about the lunar new year, but if i'm not wrong, it's celebrated in CHina too, right? With those dragons.. :D
    It's that right?
Do you also have traditional celebrations/events for the lunar new year?

oh thx for the link ^^ aww in englishhhh... super hard :)
But i can actually understand what the girl says kinda easily O_O I usually suck ^^
Let's see if i'll be able to write some new sentences in vietnamese :) but i actually don't know how to write all those letters :/

A question: if i say "cảm ơn" as the english "come on".. it's wrong?? lol pronunciation will kill me for sure :)

Hmmm no.. non so assolutamente cosa sia "TET". Un periodo di esami? :D

I don't remember the word.. but it was a 2 letters word... hmm ca?? Reading "a" with different intonation the word takes 7-8 different meanings O_O
    that's totally crazy! lol

Really, italian is easy! believe me :D

thx for the explanation, but i have really no idea of how i put them together lol
I couldn't find a "vietnamese for dummies" site lol so i just tried to put together what i found ahah
But it's funny, i'll try to make other sentences ^^

    hai mai sentito questa canzone?

Io non ascolto molta musica italiana, ma questa mi piace :)

I don't know if you can understand the meaning.. probably not cause it's not even easy.. but it's a metaphor of true love.
He is "luce" (light) and she is "diamante" (diamond) and i find it so sweet.
The lyrics in english are something like this:

    Tonight "light" feels important,
"he" looks into the mirror with elegant air
and there is nothing in the world that can distract him
from the beauty of his "diamond".
"He" will hug her, "he" will cheer her up,
"he" will pick her up if she'll fall
He will defend her, she will always be "diamond" and he will be "light"

"He" will hug her, "he" will cheer her up,
"he" will relieve her if she'll cry
"He" will defend her, "he" will forgive her
    she "diamond" and he "light"
    FOREVER
    FOREVER

    Tonight "diamond" feels special
she colors the mind in any part
and the darkness of the loneliness doesn't exist
It hasn't any power since when there is "light"

"He" will hug her, "he" will cheer her up,
"he" will pick her up if she'll fall
"He" will defend her, she will always be "diamond" and he will be "light"

"He" will hug her, "he" will cheer her up,
"he" will relieve her if she'll cry
"He" will defend her, "he" will forgive her
    she "diamond" and he "light"
    FOREVER
    FOREVER

She colors the mind in any part
tonight and forever you light and me diamond

"He" will hug her, "he" will cheer her up,
"he" will pick her up if she'll fall
"He" will defend her, she will always be "diamond" and he will be "light"

"He" will hug her, "he" will cheer her up,
"he" will relieve her if she'll cry
"He" will defend her, "he" will forgive her
    she "diamond" and he "light"
    FOREVER
    FOREVER
    FOREVER

    you light, me diamond
    you light, me diamond

non ti preoccupare ^^ per fortuna non siamo a scuola, scrivi pure quando puoi e vuoi. Più che altro pensavo di aver detto qualcosa di sbagliato o di troppo ^^

To me, pronunciation is even harder than grammar to master... i mean.. you can study grammar and at the end you'll learn it.. but pronunciation... hmm.. you need a lot of practice too.. and maybe you won't be able to get rid of your native accent at the end :/
Italian pronunciation is not hard, isn't it? ^^

ahh really?? they probably sell better in Asia then in Italy! If traffic there is so bad as you say, i guess that motorbike is the only way to don't get stuck in the traffic uh?

you can tell me more whenever you want, whichever language you want.. i told you eheh

Btw, you could have written the sentence simply using "passato prossimo".
"Passato remoto" is not used a lot anymore.... we almost use it only for reaaaaaaaaaally old events.. i could say only for historical events. Anyway, using "passato prossimo" or "passato remoto" is often the same and both. Whicever you use, you'll probably get it right eheh

    So you can say:

I miei genitori divorziarono tanto tempo fa
    or
I miei genitori hanno divorziato tanto tempo fa

The meaning is the same and the time is defined by "tanto tempo fa"

But your teacher may consider it wrong... if you use passato prossimo with old events.. even if... it's what we actually do :D

btw, you started school 2-3 months ago right?? so when you'll have tests and exams? University in Vietman is like American Colleges?

ahah it would be even crappier if the italian teachers didn't know that :D
Quali altre materie studi all'università oltre all'italiano?

It's really cool to be able to speak in different languages ^^ I love foreign languages, i love diversity, i love foreign countries, i like to discover them, their history, their life, their habits. I'm also kinda bored of italian people :p

I actually didn't know that italian motorbikes were so famous in vietnam :)
I know that many western industries open factories in asia to reduce production expenses, but i don't know which one may be famous in Vietnam :)

i have some Japanese friends too, but i'm still not good enough to have a chat in Japanese... i'm still toooo slow at writing and understanding sentences.
I train myself translating japanese songs, but songs usually have crappy grammar.. so i don't know if it's a good training lol
when i can't get the meaning of a sentence of those songs, i sometimes ask to a japanese friend and sometimes they had trouble too lol They even said me that some sentences didn't make any sense :p Especially if the song is by a korean group :D
Anyway you are most likely waaaaaaay better than me in Japanese too :)
    =>優しさではなかった。実は私はあなたのピクチャを見たおかげで、あなたのプロファイルを読んだ。とにかく、あなたに会ってうれしかった

You got what i said perfectly again :) Very good :)

BTW, you can asnwer in any language you want, if you can't do it in italian. I like to hear something from you, not only cause you can speak italian. I mean, i'm glad to know you bettter independently of the language you use.
Ok, if you speak vietnamese.. i can have a liiiittle trouble understanding :)

hmm come prossimo "esercizio" di italiano, potresti dirmi qualcosa della tua famiglia.. sempre se ti va ovviamente ^^

I already learnt about it. We can omit the subject in the sentence right?

    Yes, there is no subject.

in my book, they write "Io vivo in una grande città, di Sicilia." Maybe I have to put a comma here

Ok, this is a bit complicated.
First, Sicilia is the name of the region and not the name of the city.
So you can write "Io vivo in una grande città della Sicilia che si chiama Palermo (o di nome Palermo)
Another example "Io vivo in una grande città italiana che si chiama Roma"

But there is another way to say it:
"Io vivo NELLA grande città di Palermo, in Sicilia"
"Io vivo NELLA grande città siciliana di Palermo"

In your case: "Io vivo NELLA grande città di Hanoi"

You know "nella" is a preposition combined with a definite article, so using it you are already specifying a city, so you can tell "città di Hanoi".
Why using "in una" you are using a simple preposition + an indefinite article.. so saying "in una grande città" you are not specifiying.. so you can say "della Sicilia" "dell'Italia" to specify the region/country.. or "di nome Palermo" "che si chiama Hanoi" to specify the name.. but you can't directly tell the name saying "in una città di Hanoi"

It's a bit strange, but it's how it works lol
=>definite article or preposition combined with definite article --> it's ok "la città di Hanoi", "nella città di Hanoi"
=>indefinite article --> "una città di nome Hanoi" "in una città che si chiama Hanoi"

"Però abito in un posto molto tranquillo, pulito e vicino al centro", about this sentence, my Italian teacher forgot to correct it for me since I wrote on my essay "alla centrale" =.=

    ahah lucky you ^^
is your teacher italian or he/she just speak italian?

"Mi piace ascoltare la musica, andare al cinema e imparare le lingue straniere". I thought that "ascoltare la musica, andare.." is plural object so we should put "piacciono" :-<

You made a good reasoning, but unfortunately is wrong in this case ^^
When you say "mi piace fare...", no matter how many things you list, you always use the singular.

"Mi piace ascoltare musica, guardare film, imparare le lingue, leggere, dormire, giocare a calcio, amare, ridere... ecc ecc ecc"

It's different if you say "Mi piace qualcosa" and you make a list of nouns. In this case you have to use plural verb.

"Mi piacciono la musica, il cinema, le lingue straniere, il calcio, l'amore ecc.."
But you'll actually listen to people using "mi piace" also in this kind of sentences even if it's wrong.

But pay attention.. cause "musica, cinema, lingue straniere ecc" are the SUBJECT of the verb "piace"
In english you say "I like you"
In italian you say "Tu mi piaci" (=>Tu piaci a me)

In italian "the liked things/persons" are the subject. That's why you use the plural verb when you say "mi piacciono questo, questo e quello".
Or you say "mi piaci" if you say "mi piaci tu"

While if you list verbs, they are ALWAYS considered singular:

Listening to music and watching movies is entertaining
Ascoltare musica e guardare film E' piacevole
    Music and movies are entertaining
    Musica e film SONO piacevoli

After all is like that also in english.. it's just that the verb "piacere" is used in a weird way in italian ^^ But if you understand that the liked things/persons are the subject of the verb... then you'll easily conjugate it in the right way ;)

"Non vorrei sembrare troppo impiccione se ti faccio tante domande, spero di non infastidirti " I don't really understand this sentence cuz this structure I've not learnt yet

Damn is really hard to write using only present tense eheh
It means: "I don't want to look too nosey if i make you too many questions, i hope i won't annoy you"

Quanche volta ascolto la musica italiana. Mi piace Valerio Scanu e Finley

ahh bello ^^ probabilmente tu ascolti più musica italiana di me ^^
ormai io ascolto solo mucisa giapponese, anche se non ascolto visual key eheh

After finishing my study in the university, i think i'll continue to study international relation. I want to speak fluently 3 languages English, Italian and Japanese. Right now I can speak a little Japanese because I took a course last year. There are many scholarship for studying in Italy in my school and I'm trying to get one. I'm really interested in Italian food and history. "La conoscenza dell'italiano ti aiuterà davvero a trovare lavoro?" => I don't really understand this sentence, sorry.

oh allora è possibile che tu venga in italia tra non molto?. Il tuo livello di italiano è già molto buono, già ora non avresti problemi a fare conversazione di base. Bè speriamo tu riesca a ottenere la borsa di studio (=scolarship)

Quella domanda significa: "The knowledge of italian language will really make it easier for you to get a job?"
You know, italian is almost not spoken outside Italy. So i wonder which jobs request the knowledge of italian language ^^
And that's why i was wondering if you were planning to work abroad.

Parli un po' di giapponese?? oh, allora magari capisci questo?:
    あなたはきれいな少女です。私はあなたが本当に好きです

"Ho certato un po' con google e Hanoi sembra davvero una città carina.
Già a prima vista sembra molto diversa da qualsiasi città europea. Ricorda in molte cose le tipiche affollate città asiatiche come Nuova Delhi o Manila. Mi piacerebbe visitarla un giorno, ma siccome amo viaggiare ho davvero tanti posti che vorrei vedere, ma non abbastanza soldi per vederli tutti " I searched on google a little and Hanoi seems to be a really lovely city. It seems very different form any cities in europe. The other part I'm not really sure but it seems like you mentioned about some typical cities of Asia like New Delhi or Manila. You want to visit them someday, since you love travelling and there are many places you want to go, but you don't have enough money for all.

You got the meaning almost perfectly ^^
The part you were not sure about is "For many reasons, it (Hanoi) reminds me of some typical crowded asian cities like New Delhi and Manila"

"Per finire, non posso trattenermi dal dire che sei molto carina Ho resistito per appena 2 messaggi lol" => are you complimenting me? If so, grazie. But if not, I'm sorry E posso chiedere una domanda? Che lavoro fai?

lol yes, it was a complicated way to say you are pretty :p
Ok, italian, japanese and english. Now i need to learn how to tell it in vietnamese and i'm done :D

Io ho studiato Farmacia (Pharmacy) all'università. Poi ho lavorato per un po', ma non ero soddisfatto dello stipendio. Così ho deciso di tornare all'università e ora sto studiando Chimica Farmaceutica (Pharmaceutical Chemistry) a Torino. Sto frequentando l'ultimo anno. Penso di finire attorno alla fine del prossimo anno, oppure all'inizio del 2013.

    wow! brava brava brava :)

You understood my message pretty well :)
"non si vive male" hmm it means "life is not bad".. obviously you couldn't understand.. sorry eheh
This is the so-called "Impersonal form" and, just as reflexive verbs, it is something typical of italian language.
You use it to make sentences without subject.. that usually have a general meaning.

It's difficult to translate into english cause there is not a direct translations..

    Examples:

    In italia si mangia bene
    In italy you eat well
(or "we eat well" or "they eat well" depending on who is talking)

If you say "In italia TU mangi bene", you are referring only to me.. like i eat well.. but everyone else in Italy don't.
But it's acceptable to say "In italia mangiate bene" but it's like you are saying "italians eat well".. so it's not general as "si mangia".

Dunno if i was able to explain it :/

    Si dice che balli bene
It is said that you dance well
    Or "People say that.."
    "Ones says that.."

Si sta bene anche quando si è da soli
You feel good also when you are alone

    A volte si pensa troppo
    Sometimes we think too much
    Sometimes people think too much

In these italian sentences there is no subject, while you have to use it in english, or you have to use expressions like "it is said that.." "People say that.." etc.

Also the english sentence i just wrote is "impersonal" in italian ^^

=> "In queste frasi in italiano non c'è il soggetto, mentre in inglese lo si deve usare o si usano espressoni come "it is said" "people say" ecc.

Also what you wrote is really good, there are little mistakes but overall is pretty easy to understand :) well done!

Io vivo in una grande città di Hanoi, che si trova nel nord del Vietnam. È la capitale e ci sono molti abitanti, circa 6.5 milioni, penso. Hanoi è una città bella e interessante. Il nostro stile di vita è molto diverso dal vostro. (I can't describe clearly for you to understand in Italian). Ma c'è un problema. Il traffico qui è molto cattivo. Però abito in un posto molto tranquillo, pulito e vicino alla centrale. Perciò sono contenta della mia vita.

Io vivo nella grande città di Hanoi,
    or
Io vivo in una grande città che si chiama Hanoi (o "di nome Hanoi")

    Il traffico è molto cattivo.
This sentence is not wrong but we simply say: "C'è molto traffico" (lit. there is a lot of traffic").

Cause with "traffico" we always mean "bad traffic".
There is another world you can use and it's "circolazione". With this world we mean "traffic flow" or "circulation".. so you can say "La circolazione stradale è pessima".

Another little note. the english adjective "bad" can be translated into italian in different ways:
"cattivo" "malvagio": with the meaning of bad, nasty, mean, evil
"pessimo" "scarso" "scadente" or the verb "fare schifo": with the meaning of terrible, awful, poor, not good.

So, if i wanna say "my english is bad" ---> il mio inglese è pessimo, è scarso, è scadente, fa schifo
If i wanna say "I am a bad (evil) person" ---> io sono una persona cattiva, malvagia, pessima.

Però abito in un posto molto tranquillo, pulito e vicino al centro
"Centro" is the noun while "centrale" is the adjective

In the second part of the message there are only little mistakes with singular/plural or masculine/feminine.

[quote]Mi piace ascoltare la musica, andare al cinema e imparare le lingue straniere. Amo la musica Giapponese, i film Giapponese e Americani. Ho degli amici stranieri. Mi piace molto chiacchierare con loro.

Reaaaallly good job overall ^^ i would like to be able to speak japanese this well already :)

Ok, i'm trying to make the sentences a little more complicated, but these should still be pretty easy for you :)

Sure, it's all a matter of getting used to it :) cause they aren't difficult.
And i swear that they are pretty logical too! :D

    Another tip:
Transitive verbs: both direct and reflexive verbs are usually used. Use direct verbs if the action is made on someone or something, use reflexive if the action is made on the subject itself
Intransitive verbs: in this case, direct verbs aren't used.. so you can consider only the reflexive verbs ^^
For example, we use "arrabbiarsi" but not "arrabbiare".
If you want to use "arrabbiare" you have to use it as a composed verb with "fare" and it become "fare arrabbiare" (To make someone angry). Did you already studied composed verbs?

Io abito in una piccola città che sia chiama Biella.
Biella si trova nel nord Italia tra Torino e Milano.
E' una città abbastanza noiosa ma non si vive male :)
Cosa mi dici invece di te? Dove vivi in Vietnam? Com'è la vita da quelle parti?
Cosa ti piace fare? Quali hobby hai?
Insomma, dimmi qualcosa in più di te. Se ti va ^^

p.s. if you can understand it and answer it.. you are already awesome :)

So so... reflexive verbs.. let's see... ^^

Reflexive verbs express actions that directly affect the subject of the verb itself.
You can get them taking the infinitive tense of a verb, remove the final "e" and attaching the so-called reflexive pronouns.
Reflexive pronouns are: mi - ti - si - ci - vi - si (from 1st person singular to 3rd person plural)

Let's make an example with the verb "lavare" = to wash

and this is its present tense conjugation:

    Io lavo
    Tu lavi
    Egli lava
    Noi laviamo
    Voi lavate
    Essi lavano

What are all these persons washing???
    Well it depends...

Io lavo una mela (I wash an apple)
Tu lavi i piatti (You wash the dishes)
Egli lava il cane (He washes the dog)
    Ecc Ecc

In these examples, the action "lavare" affects something that is not the subject of the verb itself.

But what happens if these persons wash themself??

This is the moment when the action becames reflexive.. cause the subject does an action that affects himself.

    If i say:
Io lavo le mani (lit. I wash the hands)

Who is listening can ask "whose hands??"
Cause in the sentence is not specified.

I should say: "Io lavo le mie mani" (i wash my hands) to make it clear.
But here doesn't work that way lol.. cause using a reflexive verbs make things easier eheh

So we use the reflexive verb "lavarsi" and not the normal verb "lavare"

So the correct sentence is: " Io MI lavo le mani" and NOT "Io lavo le mie mani" (Even if also this second sentence is gramatically right.

But let's go further.. now i simply wanna say that i'm washing myself, i don't need to specify what part of my body i'm washing.

If i simply say: "Io lavo" I'm only saying that i'm washing something THAT IS NOT ME. While saying "Io mi lavo", I'm telling that i'm washing myself.

So, everytime that the action directly affects the subject.. you have to use a reflexive verbs.
The conjugaton of reflexive verbs is:

    Io mi lavo
    Tu ti lavi
    Egli si lava
    Noi ci laviamo
    Voi vi lavate
    Essi si lavano

"mi" is used with "io", "ti" con "tu" and so on.
Pay attention to situations where the verb seems reflexive but it's not.
"Io ti lavo" is not an example of reflexive verbs.. cause in this case it means "Io lavo te" and the pronouns "ti"hasn't reflexive functions but it just takes place of the pronouns"te" that is a simple direct object complement.

Reflexive verbs may be transitive or intransive.

    Transitive reflexive verbs
An example of transitive reflexive verb is "lavarsi". Cause i can use a direct object complement with it like in "Io mi lavo le mani"
    Other verbs are:
Vestirsi (to dress up, get dressed)
    Cambiarsi (to change clothes)
    Pettinarsi (to comb)
    Stancarsi (to get tired)
    Divertirsi (to have fun)
    Addormentarsi (to fall asleep)
    Svegliarsi (to wake up)

As you can understand, these are all verbs that express actions that have a direct effect on the subject. The subject dress himself, the subject change his clothes, the subject combs his hairs or it's the subject who get tired, have fun, fall aslepp or wake up.
As you can see, in english, sometime a simple direct verb is used like "dress up" or "change", while sometime a composed verb is used like "get dressed, get tired, fall asleep".
In italian language, we simply use this reflective verbs :)

    Intransitive reflexive verbs
Intransitive verbs, instead, can't have a direct object complement.
    Here some examples:
    Pentirsi (to regret)
    Vergognarsi (to be ashamed)
    Ammalarsi (to get sick)
    Arrabbiarsi (to get angry)
    Arrendersi (to give up)
    Ribellarsi (to rebel)

They haven't a direct object complement but for all the rest they work exactly as the transitive reflexive verbs.
You just have to pay attention that verbs that are transitive in english like "to regret" are intransitive in italian.
But you just have to remember them.

i hope you got what i said until now.. cause this was supposed to be the easier part lol

Infact, we also have reflexive verbs with reciprocal meaning.
Let's see an example to explain it.
    Verb: "Salutarsi" (to greet eachother)
You can't say "io mi saluto" (lit. I greet myself) cause it doesn't make any sense.
This kind of verbs are used only with plural subject.
    Noi ci salutiamo
    Voi vi salutate
    Essi si salutano

In fact, if there is me and you and i tell you "salutiamoci", with a single verb i mean that "Io saluto te" and "Tu saluti me".
This is the reciprocal meaning i was talking about.

    Another example? "baciarsi" (to kiss)

If i say "noi ci siamo baciati" (we kissed), i mean that i kissed you and you kissed me.
If i use the direct verb "baciare" and i say "noi baciamo" (that it's always "we kissed" in english), i'm meaning that me and you kissed someone else (even if it's not specified).

Probably with "baciarsi" and "baciare" is easier to understand :)

But there is something more! -_-

Non reflexive verbs that we use as reflexive

Let's make an example to put it simple.

Ora, io mangio un panino e bevo una birra.
Now i eat a sandwich and I drink a beer

This is a normal correct italian sentence, you probably haven't problem with so simple sentences.

Ok, but to make the sentence more personal and to emphasize that the subject is doing the action we say:

Ora, MI mangio un panino e MI bevo una birra.

    The meaning DOESN'T change!
But now we are using the verbs "mangiarsi" and "bersi" instead of "mangiare" and "bere", but we don't use them wth reflexive meaning.
"Mangiarsi", in fact, literally means that "you eat yourself" and "Bersi" means that "you drink yourself".. but you can understand that in that context.. they CAN'T have that meaning.

This is already a bit complicated, for the moment you can focus on how reflexive verbs work.. you can improve their use later :)

oh thx, but my english is just decent lol
Your teacher must really sucks :D
have you studied complements, prepositions and pronouns too?

Reflexive verbs may be hard to understand by foreigners since they often don't exist in other languages..
Ok, I'll write a "lesson" about it.. i hope my english is good enough to write something understandable ahah
I hope to have time to do it later :)
