Before BIG BANG were formed Tae Yang and fellow band mate G.Dragon were known as "G.Dragon & YB Tae Kwon", they have performed as a duo at concerts such as 'SE7EN's First SE7EN' as rappers and backing dancers.

In May 2008, Tae Yang went on to do his first solo mini-album, Hot. This debuted on May 23, 2008 along with two music videos for his songs Prayer and Look Only at Me.
