A'ST1 (Astar Revolution) is a brand new boyband consisting of 6 members. With a sound a little similar to SS501 and Super Junior but with a unique flavour, the band is anticipated to become a rival of both bands, especially the latter. The boys (who are all in their early twenties) can sing, dance and rap, which seem to be the keys to success within boybands in Korea.
“The 6-male group is called A’ST1 and is composed of Korean members Park Jung Jin (22), Byun Jang Moon (21), Sung In Kyu (21) and Lim Han Byul (20), Japanese member Tomo (22) and Chinese member Haiming (22). A single will be released at the end of March or in April,” DSP revealed on March 3. The single’s title track is called “1234Back,” which was composed by Han Sung Won, the one who made Park Ji Hun’s “The Day I Miss You.”
A'ST1 is a brand new 6-member boyband, consisting of Park Jung Jin, Byun Jang Moon, Sung In Kyu, Lim Han Byul, Tomo and Haiming. The group is DSP Entertainment's brand new protegée and they debuted in 2008. A'ST1 is taking its first steps towards entering the music scene, but it is said that all 6 members went through 3 years of intensive training.
With two of the members being non-Korean (Tomo is Japanese and Haiming is Chinese), DSP Entertainment has plans for the band to become a representative group throughout Asia. Before their debut, A'ST1 received good and bad publicity. Arirang TV showed an interest and, on the 12th of March, started airing videos of the group training and preparing for their debut. A problem occured when the band's promotional video was released to the public and it showed the group members holding a sign that said "overthrow Super Junior". This caused an uproar among Super Junior fans and the A'ST1 members had to apologize publicly, explaining that it was not meant as an attack against Super Junior and that all the band members had great respect towards their predecessors.
Under a magnifying glass of good and bad attention, the group released their debut single 1.2.3.4. Back on April 20th. The single was recorded with the help of two known songwriters; Han Sang Won and Kim Jin Hwan. Han Sang Won, who composed SS501's song 4 Chance and Park Ji Heon's Bogosipeun Nalen is the man behind the debut single's title song 1.2.3.4. Back. Kim Jin Hwan is the composer of SS501's Take U High and contributed to 1.2.3.4. Back, composing the single's second track, Show.
It seems that the group's debut single has been relatively well received despite all the bad publicity and we can just wait and see what these 6 talented young men come up with in the future!
