About NEWS
NEWS (also seen as News and NewS) is a Johnny's Entertainment group composed of six members (formerly nine). NEWS stands for the four compass directions: North, East, West and South.
History
* September 2003: Nine Johnny's Juniors were picked to form NEWS.
* November 7, 2003: First single release, NEWS Nippon. This was a limited release, available only at 7-11 stores (corresponding to the release date of Nov 7) as the 2003 volleyball championships official song.
* December 2003: Moriuchi Takahiro (森内貴寛) left NEWS and Johnny's Entertainment, leaving the current eight members.
* May 12, 2004: Major debut single, Kibou ~Yell~. Ranks in at #1 on the Oricon Charts.
* May 2006: NEWS is suspended for the rest of the year due to temporary suspension of 2 members for under age drinking of alcohol (Uchi Hiroki in July 2005 & Kusano Hironori in January 2006). Members that are not related to the scandals will be allowed to carry on with their solo activities, but no group activities will be carried on during this period until further notice.

Yamashita Tomohisa formed a temporary duo with Kamenashi Kazuya of "Shuji to Akira" as a promotion for the fall 2005 drama, "Nobuta wo Produce." The single topped the charts of 2005 with over a million copies sold.
Yamashita Tomohisa formed a temporary group along with Thai Johnny's Golf & Mike, supported by four other Johnny's Juniors as backup dancers in promotion of the Women's Volleyball World Prix. The name of the group is "kitty G(olf)Y(amashita)M(ike)" and the promotional single, Fever and Future, was released in August 2006.
Tegoshi Yuya and Masuda Takahisa have also formed a unit called Tegomass (TEGOMASU in Japan) and released a English single, Miso Soup, in Sweden in November 2006. The Japanese version of the single was released in Japan in December 2006.
