Shin Hye Sung (born Jung Pil-kyo on November 27, 1979 is the lead vocalist of the boy band Shinhwa. His Korean name "Hye Sung" means Comet and his English name is Steve Jung. He auditioned in America through Brothers Entertainment and became the first member to be part of the group.
Shinhwa
Main article: Shinhwa
Hyesung was the first member to be placed into Shinhwa. Since then, he has been the lead vocalist of the band. His voice is considered to be that of an angel, and together with Shinhwa, he has released 9 albums.[1]
Solo
Hyesung was the second member in Shinhwa to release solo albums, the first being Lee Minwoo. Although he had wanted to go into R&B like Lee Minwoo did, he chose to sing ballads as he did not want to rival his friend. He released his first solo album entitled "오월지련"(Love of May, 五月之戀) in 2005. This album ranked number one on the HMV pre-order sales chart in Japan in February 2005, with 180,000 copies sold. Hyesung released his second album, entitled The Beginning, New Days on August 8, 2007. His song, First Person, was #1 on the K-pop Top 10 chart, followed closely by fellow Shinhwa member Kim Dongwan's song, Handkerchief. His album sold 30,000 copies when it was just released on August 8, 2007 and 50,000 copies sold in just seven days. Although his bandmates, Eric, Dongwan, Junjin, Minwoo and Andy are enlisting for the military in 2008,[2]Hyesung is already exempted from military service because of an injury in his knee cord while he was doing the Guerilla Concert in 2001. Despite the fact that he underwent an operation on his knee cord just after he injured it, he still suffers from its effects while dancing on stage or walking.
