An English version of Utada Hikaru's "Sakura Drops" was produced by Disney for its "Disney On Ice" show in 2010. However, Utada was not consulted and was unaware of this until recently.
In the performance, Minnie Mouse visits Japan and celebrates to blossoming of the cherry trees. The melody of Utada Hikaru's classic hit "Sakura Drops" can be heard playing. However, the song was translated into English with a different singer's voice being used.
The singer was unaware that Disney had used her song in the show and was surprised when she found out about it.
"I'm honoured that Disney on Ice chose my song for their show, but I wish they'd told me about it, I would've written the English lyrics!" she tweeted after discovering footage of the performance.

wow disney is really going down the drain! I can't believe they did that! If Utada used a clip from a Disney movie in one of her music videos she would get in trouble and most likely sued. So why should it be any different the other way around? That is stealing disney!
No matter what, credit should always be given to the original artist
Awesome song...love it...
I hope they give credit to her for the original version. They could have asked her since they did use her songs for Kingdom Hearts. Maybe they didn't want to spend big $$$!
I like that song~!
Yeah they should've told her. She could've sang the English version herself! That could be considered as plagiarism right?
Although she's fine with it, it still is her song isn't it? ._.
hikki I miss Ur epic songs :')
Wow, they should've gotten permission...she could've reacted badly to that...she should have sued, Disney is lucky she didn't
I agree. That's not right. They really are lucky she's nice enough not to sue.
disney should have told her about it..
but the honor is hers since that's her song.. but still.
Disney really should have informed her or at least asked her to write the lyrics, but I give her props for being gracious and polite about it.
Sue 'em!!! That's your $$ girl!
Disney would do that. lol jk i wouldn't know. but they should have told utada about it. since SHE made that song.
they just stole her song >:( the fact they didnt tell her but thats great
wow i hate it when companies steal songs like this. omg just ask for heavens sake, its not to hard, they usually say yes because its more publicity for them!
It's great for her. But it's so unfair!! It's bad enough Disney didn't pay her for her work in Kingdom Hearts. She put a lot of effort in those songs; translating and all, and adjusting the beat to fit the lyrics. Disney is just too mean to her.
How upsetting. I think I heard her singing in Japanese
It was her song after all. I'm sure she could have written better lyrics. I'm so happy for her!
She should definitely sue them for that.
i'd expect Disney.... who have all the money in the world to at least consult Hikki if they want to use her song... such a disappointment...
