Two members of Tajinyo, the internet group who viciously claimed Korean rapper Tablo's Stanford degree was fake, have been sentenced to prison for defamation of the star.
The two members, Won and Lee, were sentenced to 10 months in prison by the Seoul Central District Court on July 6th. They were immediately taken into custody after the ruling was given.
In addition, 4 people were given 8 month prison sentences with a 2 year probation period. 2 others were given 10 months in prison with a 2 year probation period.
"The public is free to express their interest in celebrities, and celebrities must handle it to some extent. However, the two went over the threshold of simple comments into continuous, malicious slander against Tablo and his family," Judge Kwak Yoon Kyung stated.
Tajinyo, also known as "We Want the Truth from Tablo", was an internet group who claimed Tablo never graduated from Stanford. Despite confirmation of his degree, the group continued to slander Tablo and his family, leading to a lengthy trail.

I dunno if the jail was needen.... i mean that fact will ruin their lives... they did make a mistake and they should never do that again... but shouldnt some money penalty be enough for this? they ruined tablo's image, but he's wanting to ruin 6 people's life because of that? Its not like they did robery or murder!!
Thos people got what they deserved.
I dont think this decision was harsh. Why?Ok they live in korea, and law is different there, not only that but they treat privacy differently, and the way they show respect is different too, to me its hard to agree with some things there, but that is the way THEY live, so if im a korean who knows well how the law is, i know what could happen if i dont respect it, just as i know i can get a ticket if a dont use my seat belt while driving right? They over did it. they knew they could be punished badly, but still they kept pusshing the situation. Imagine you put your hand in water that is being boiled, you know that the water will eventually be too hot to stand it and you will burn. well, that happened with them, they didnt stop when they could have and burned. Do u imagine the things tablo and his family had to stand? i bet if you were in that situation, you would want the same. again, that is because they live in a place where things are strict.
I don't think many of the commenters realize how extremely the lives of Tablo and his family were affected by Tanjiyo's defamation. They even received death threats. America, too, has defamation and liable laws, and similar sentences would have been given here. The lies spread by Tanjiyo were considered defamation, and punished as so, because they were (1) false, (2) malicious (in that, those who said spread the lies intended them to have the effect that they did), and (3) were said not just to Tablo (which would be only an insult) but to others. While celebrities must put up with rumors and even lies, there are limits, and Tanjiyo obviously crossed a line.
Well, they wouldn't stop. I hope Tablo and his family are still handling everything okay...
these people really don't know the limit of expressing themselves..
what do they have against him anyways?
This is different than freedom of speech because Tablo proved to the police/government that he had gone to Stanford and it was publicly announced as being fact. But the organization continued to spread lies even after it was proven and continued to misinform people.
Laws against people publishing lies? That doesn't seem so bad to me.
If every country sent its people to jail over petty things such as this, a good population of the world would be locked up.
I sucks that these people felt a need to attack this guy, but this sort of thing happens everyday.
Rumors would not flourish if it weren't for the ignorance of others and need to believe every damn thing they read, see on tv, and listen to.
that just a star that just complaining about dumb stuff that no one really cares about
even so, don't you think it's a little too harsh? :I
Those people got no life so sentensing to jail wont really matter anyway..
At least they got what they deserved o3o
I thank God every day that I live in America where there is freedom of speech and this kinda crap can't happen.
That's wath I wanted to hear!
People are so ignorant these days! yeah you have freedom of speech but you abuse it and harass somebody. You hate on them, too make it worse you harass the family who probably have nothing to do with the fact you don't like the celebrity! You send death threats, harassment's, malicious slander and Defamation! its sad because they would be mad too if that happened to them >:( hate people like that!
But there are other, saner ways to deal with cases like this. Prison is the most extreme answer.
there's something called too much is too much. sure you hate a celebrity nothing wrong with that but the extent these guys did just to achieve their goals... their acts are pathetic, low, whatever. 10 months imo is too short... considering the amount of harm the family members have to undergo and tablo himself dealing with people like these.
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! O.o
What kind of things did they say? Because if it's just because they claimed he didn't have a degree this is really, really excessive.
defamation, harassing tablo and his family members.... sending threats, basically everything an anti-fan would do...
