Super Junior has been in Japan holding their "Super Show 4" concerts in Tokyo. During a press conference before the show, the group revealed they are thinking about forming a Japanese subunit.
"We never stayed in Japan to promote and it’s not like we had official promotions in Japan, either. But we think because of K-Pop’s overall popularity, we gained a lot of fan support. In order to return the love, we are also thinking about unit groups in Japan," the group stated.
In addition, the group also commented on comparisons to TVXQ's popularity in Japan.
"We think we benefited a lot from Hallyu’s recent popularity. Many people compare our popularity to TVXQ’s, but we really have a long way to go. TVXQ’s fandom is beyond imagination. TVXQ first started with small scale concerts with only 500 seats when they first came to Japan. They worked extremely hard to work their way up and achieved the results they did," the said.
Although remaining modest in front of the press, Super Junior's popularity in Japan has become undeniable as their latest Japanese single "Opera" climbed to the top of the Oricon Daily Singles chart. The single has sold over 150,000 copies in 6 days.

I'm not completely opposed to the idea of the sub group but it would need to be the members who aren't going anywhere for a little bit. I also think that putting Eunhyuk in ANOTHER group would just be too much. I dunno about adding more members though. I could see it being benificial for them but I hope that it wouldn't turn into another huge uproar like it was when they added Henry and Zou Mi.
I think that creating a sub unit would be a cool idea however they need to brush up their Japanese speaking skills (I thought it Korean when I first heard it)
I think it's a good thing for them to have a sub-unit, just how they do for SuJu-M. I don't think it will turn out bad and I tend to listen to a lot of the Korean artists who do Japanese music.
Well a japanese sub-unit wouldn't be bad at all
I think this sounds awesome.. I love their japanese songs... not as much as the Korean... but I think its cause I heard the Korean first. And I'm not really all that surprised with a new sub-unit what with them starting military... when one get back another 2 or 3 have to go.... all until Kyuhyun goes? I think Sub-units will be what we hear mostly for a while once most of the group is away.
That is just how I see it.
IM SO SORRY BUT I HATE IT WHEN KOREAN BANDS START SINGING JAPANESE SONGS. i think korean singers suit singing in their own language SO MUCH BETTER than other languages :/
i really dont know y i dont like it but its like american singers singing a song in japanese...-.-
i totally agree with you and even if they sing it has a accent lol
Of course they won't beat TVXQ in Japan. But nonetheless, they're awesome as is, but another sub unit? That's just gonna be work overload for all the members unless they add in Japanese members or something, kinda like what they did with SuJu-M, but I'm pretty sure there'll be another uproar among fans. -_-
Isn't this like the 5th subunit? I'm not a HUUUUGE fan of them (I like many of their songs tho) but I feel there is a fine line between being hard-working and overworking yourself. :S
How sure are we that it's actually Japanese people (by that I even mean people in Japan) are the main purchasers of their singles. You know what k-pop fans are like.
No offence, honestly, but you guys can be *obsessive*!
lol stop with Japanese dont like Kpop BS thats so old
100,000 'non-Japanese' attended Sujus Tokyo concert right? lol
you people should be more like Kpop fans and obsess over what you love rather than about what you hate
See? Your way too defensive.
I like K-pop plenty, just not Super Junior. And I don't think they're that popular in Japan either. Just crazy ELFs overbuying like usual.
I guess many SuJu-M members will participate in a SuJu-J team since Teukie and Yesung are both leaving this year for military. I hope that Kangin will make a comeback soon!!
Wow. Like SuJu-M?
I think Eunhyuk's going to be in the Japanese sub unit. He has the higher chance I mean.
I feel like Eunhyuk would definitely have to be in a Japanese subunit, and then he'd be in EVERY subunit and that would make scheduling hard at least between M and the main group.
a sub unit? I don't think they are sooo popular to do so! But I really admire them for saying they are not as good as TVXQ yet! (I'm a Cassie you know
)
i think that's great
that they are trying so hard
another subunit? probably only fans in Japan look forward to it the most... hmm but i don't know what to think about this.... and so they do what they want
pls no don't!!! sarcasm...don't like them they sound to indian like....p.s. not racist to indian cause i am one
srsly suju???
get the hell out of it.
this will be the worst decision. fuck yeah.
