UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon has given PSY's "Gangnam Style" his stamp of approval, calling the song a force for world peace.
Ban is pleased to see the fellow South Korean breaking down language barriers, allowing for an exchange of culture the country hasn't had the opportunity to do before on such a large scale.
"There are no languages required in the musical world. That is the power of music, that is the power of the heart. Through this promotion of arts we can better understand the culture and civilizations of other people. In this era of instability and intolerance we need to promote better understanding through the power of music," Ban told the AFP.
The UN Secretary General is also a fan of the song, stating that he's watched the video several times, enjoying it not only for promoting a better understanding of South Korean culture, but for its entertainment value as well.

The language things is quite true, just look at most of us, we don't speak japanese/korean/chinese fluent yet we still love that music and buy cds... On the other hand, the song is pure garbage and calling it "force for world peace" is giving it to much... 2 months and he's just going to be "that asian guy".

Music knows no boundaries. Us over here in North America love J-Rock/J-pop and K-pop music. This is so amazing for him to have the UN Sectary General give him praise for the song.

I can't help but be cynical and think that the people watching this aren't really getting the point of the song. Although I think with the exposure PSY's gotten people can at least distinguish that he's Korean.
Nonetheless, I am happy that PSY is becoming successful. His hardworking, funny and humble nature just makes me unable to dislike him at all.
