Hmm? What's wrong with Modanna? One glance at the album charts you can estimate about 10 English albums... why only pick her? Controversy or something?

It's Madonna. And this is the part where I add on length to be able to post this perfectly relevant comment. Okay I guess I have more to say anyway- she's popular enough that there's no excuse for a legend like that.

Sorry I don't know her. By saying that my mp3 collection has literally ZERO English songs, you should know why...

Thanks for informing, and to all, please help to point out any mistakes you find directly ^^

Ehh, really?... she's the world's top selling female artist of all time. It's like screwing up The Beatles or Michael Jackson.

Well if I don't even take 1 second to listen to English music, there's no way I could know no matter how famous the artists are... To be frank, I only know who Michael Jackson is after he died due to the unavoidable news that spreaded everywhere. I don't know who 'The Beatles' are as well.

Of course there are some that I couldn't even avoid not knowing such as Justin Bieber. But I know him not from the words that he sells well, but rather from all the insults that are targeted at him lol.

So in other words... being famous won't get me to know them... but perhaps being infamous will... When I've seen enough of the endless hate, I'll start to google and read up about that artist merely for curiosity purpose.

They're all before my time, even if Madonna is obviously still releasing. I honestly only know a handful of each of their songs. I mean, let's face it, pretty much everyone on the best seller list is before my time at this point due to the massive decline of physical sales within the last 10 years.

And, they were all controversial and made plenty of headlines for what they did or what happened to them- Madonna was basically the Lady Gaga of the '80s-early '90s.

Anyway, point is they're foundational to much of the pop music you hear today- directly influencing, or at the very least, influencing the influencers all around the world. You don't need to be a fan, but you gotta at least know them. I mean, B'z shares here go for 111 right now- but I still know their 80 million sold, easily first -BY FAR- in Japan, has been a major influence to pop/rock music development there. At the very least, Ayumi Hamasaki has cited Madonna as an influence (indeed they're often compared), so even if few in Japan had heard of Madonna, surely they've been influenced by Ayu.

Sorry I don't see why I have to know them just because they are the ones who influence. It's nothing more than history lessons. For the Windows / Mac OS you're using, you don't have to trace all the way back to how computers first begin. The Bill gates or the Steve Jobs whom people admire all begin with something from someone. Computers don't start from Windows 95 or even way back to MSDOS; it begins much much much longer ago.

I'm from this generation, using this generation's computers, listening to this generation's songs, and that's all that matters. I don't have to trace back to everything that begin its first influence, because strictly speaking, it'll ALL leads to B.C.

There are other uncountable important knowledge and skills that I wish to acquire, yet haven't had the time to so. So I shouldn't be even concerned about influence history, unless it's something whereby if humans don't give a damn about, it'll repeat itself, like the World War II.

ROFL!!! Madonna's sales are no where near The Beatles and Michael Jackson's sales. She has to put in about 20 years more work to get there.
