Last June 23rd, MTV Japan Video Music Awards 2012 was held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba. Girl techno-pop group PERFUME was this year's host. A mixture of US and Kpop groups were present at the event as award presenters or performers like Linkin Park, SCANDAL, 2NE1, EXILE, and WORLD ORDER.
Winners in MTV Japan were solely based on fan voting from lists of nominees without distinction to artist's origin. The entire awards ceremony will have a replay on MTV channels in Korea and Taiwan (July 7th), Southeast Asia (July 8th), Vietnam (July 10th), and in China (July 12th).

Best Hip Hop Video - KREVA “Kijun”
Best Reggae Video - SEAN PAUL “She Doesn’t Mind”
Best Dance Video - Perfume "Laser Beam"
Best Video from a Film - BUMP OF CHICKEN “Good Luck” /”ALWAYS 3choume no Yuhi’64″
Best Collaboration Video - Namie Amuro “make it happen" feat.AFTERSCHOOL
Best Choreography - Perfume "Laser Beam"
Best Album of the Year - Shoujo Jidai “GIRLS’ GENERATION”
Best Karaokee! Song - Sonar Pocket “365 Nichi no Love Story.”

They (organisers) should stop pretending that this is Japanese. I'm not saying that because of the nominations (said to not care about country of origin, clearly has no interest in local music) but because fans from all over the world could vote. Not saying anything against k-pop, but if it was just Japanese people voting, they wouldn't have done this spectacularly.
It's honestly a pretty good mix. No doubt helped by the fact that minor categories like hip hop and r&b could go to Japanese artists. But it seems like the major categories got a lot of international hallyu push... though it could just be a factor of Japanese MTV fan demographics. I mean, SNSD is undoubtedly popular in Japan- but I also kinda feel like if those are the nominees then of course so and so is gonna win no problem. 2PM's win seems most questionable, but I haven't seen the video in question. I didn't think they were popular enough to even beat several other Korean groups honestly, let alone everyone everywhere.
Must watch it!
