L'Arc~en~Ciel's Debut at Madison Square Garden

"Its four members had designer-punk haircuts, glittery asymmetrical clothes and spotlight-ready moves", described by Jon Pareles of New York Times regarding L'Arc~en~Ciel's appearance on stage. The Japanese rock band attracted not only Asian and Americans but also of Hispanic heritage. It only proves that the band is a worldwide bestseller with 20 years in the making.

As the first Japanese rock act to performed at the Garden, the four-member band filled the Garden with their guitar-driven rock music. They opened the night with "Ibara No Namida", sang four songs from their "Butterfly" album, and ended the night with an encore of "Anata", "Winter Fall", "Blurry Eyes", and "Niji".

As lead vocalist, Hyde, flirted with the audience with his goth-rock crooning and snake-hips dance; Bassist Tetsuya tossed banana and lollipops and made an English speech about his trip to National Museum of History; lead guitarist Ken played squealing solos that could rival Van Halen; and drummer Yukihiro being a living jackhammer; the rock band from Osaka have indeed come a long way.

I was at the show. It was amazing! You got a couple of things wrong, though. They are the first Japanese/Asian band to HEADLINE at the Garden, not to perform there. Also, as some others mentioned,it was Ken, not Tetsuya who spoke to the audience about his trip to the museum. For those of you that want to see them in the future, don't forget that they'll be in Hawaii at the end of May. And, I did see a couple of interviews when I was in NY and, from what I understand, after the tour they are going to work on their independent stuff for a while. Hyde will be touring in Japan with Vamps for the rest of this year, but it was mentioned in one of the interviews that he (with Vamps) is looking to doing another tour in the US, maybe, next year.

I can never hope to see them since they will most likely be in a venue that will be 4 to 6 hours from our home, but wish that they would seriously consider coming to the USA and doing an extended tour instead of just a short stay on the west coast and then a short stay on the east coast....hey, LARUKU! your FANBASE is all over the USA!!!!!!

I was so depressed that I couldn't be there...there's no way I could have been there on a school day. I'm sure it was great, glad to know they came close to where I live!

Love the concert! I believe it was Ken that made the speech about his trip to the American Museum of Natural History. That was very endearing :-)
