The "Ganbarou Nippon!" earthquake charity soccer match was held at Osaka's Nagai Stadium on March 29th, and singer Kuraki Mai made an appearance to perform the Japanese national anthem during its opening ceremony. Her performance touched many on the field, and one viewer remarked, "This is the first time I've been so moved by hearing the national anthem sung." Watch it here:
At the end of the match, Kuraki commented, "I put my heart into the song today in the hopes that it could reach those in areas affected by the disaster and everyone who's been living with feelings of uneasiness across Japan." When asked about her participation in the day's fundraising activities, she replied, "Right now, I want to put all of my energy into doing what I can."
Though she's already designed a charity bracelet for earthquake relief, Kuraki noted that she'd like to be able to ease the pain of disaster victims through her music and revealed some news about a possible upcoming benefit release: "I've thought about a charity song also, and I've been in the studio recording it," she said. More information on the song will most likely be announced at a later date.
