KARA's Gyuri and Nicole opened up about the difficulties they've faced through their careers as idols.
The two were guest on the latest episode of KBS2's "Do Dream". Gyuri started by discussing the time she was signing on to become a trainee with an agency. She revealed that she went to the agency with her parents to review the contract. During the meeting, the agency gave her parents an estimate for the plastic surgery they wanted her to do before she could debut with the company.
"I was very upset that they said this to my parents, the people who gave birth to me," she stated.
"When I debuted with KARA, I looked more mature than the other members. A lot of people asked why I was in the group and I lost a lot of confidence," she continued, sharing more of the struggles she's had with her image.
Afterwards, Nicole talked about her struggle with learning new languages. When KARA began debuting in Japan, the idol had to learn Japanese. However, lessons were taught in Korean, another language she had learned later in life as a trainee.
"It was hard to learn another foreign language, especially when being taught in Korean. I was already struggling with Korean. In Japan, I was afraid I would say something wrong or lose my flow, so I just wouldn't speak," she stated.

If I were her parents I would be really mad at what that representative said. Way to smash down self esteem!
I'd be hella ANGRY!! D:< He's Gorgeous for crying out loud!!
There is so much pressure on idols...its really sad :\
Haven't they considered it a bit harsh to say that..
God. This hurts. I can't believe this is something that happens.
Saying that kind of thing right in front of her parents is just low.
Talent agencies can be that way. Most of them honestly aren't in it for the music/talent,just the money. It's rather unfortunate.
I also feel for Nicole. You want to be good at everything that is assigned to you but there are obstacles.
However, seeing how far KARA has gone,I believe they are going to be just fine.
That would be horrific to be told to have plastic surgery in front of your parents...
It is hard learning other languages....
i love "Do Dream"...i wanna watch this episode. Gyuri is already beautiful. f*** those talent agency!
Wow, you're going through so much...even have the guts to do plastic surgery....
That's a bit harsh. Poor girls.
HOW DARE THEY SAY THAT TO HER PARENTS!!!!
That's just plain rude and she looks beautiful. >=[
most agencies would probably tell them to go for a makeover.... or give them one maybe, but telling the parents their daughter needs plastic surgery? *rolls eyes*

she probably has some unique beauty i don't see or am not used to.
i think that is just terrible. they shouldnt have said that to her. and since nicole had been raised with english, they should have taken that into consideration whrn she had to learn japanese. the companies can be so harsh
did Gyuri end up getting the surgery? idk man, I just find her so stunning and goddess-like either way
I don't think she did
if i was the parents i would be soo offended!! >:( why she has to get plastic surgey because shes differ from the others because shes looks more mature and you dont want that??
she looks good the way she is and the look of maturity she has was well used in their more mature singles.
