Despite lots of buzz and anticipation, Girls' Generation's comeback special "Romantic Fantasy" did not bring in many viewers, receiving surprisingly low ratings.
The MBC special only garnered a rating of 3.8% according to Nielson viewing data, causing many people to question why the program much worse than expected.
Many people point to the fact that the program aired on New Years late at night (11:45 PM); however, other shows such as KBS 2TV's "Win Win" and SBS' "Thank You" garnered ratings of 11.4% and 7.4% respectively.
With the show in such a bad time slot, it is possible that only the more hardcore Girls' Generation fans bothered to watch the program.
While "Romantic Fantasy" may have been a disappoint in rating, the group's new album "I Got a Boy" has been the exact opposite, achieving an all-kill in Korea, charting in the top 20 on the US iTunes album chart and amassing millions of views for their new music video in hours.

They are so good...
goood for GG!!!!!!!!!!
Well I'm sure the time slot is at fault! But no fear GG because the album still rocks ne!?!
At least the album is still high on the chart.
fans now are probably searching it on the internet, so you never know how many viewers it would gain. Kinda sad, but it doesn't make them less popular ^ ^
Well, I would've watched it since I'm partly an insomniac hahaha.
But I heard that a lot of people didn't like it (I Got A Boy) that much.
i wouldnt have watched it either... on too late
Umm.... that picture is like KARA's STEP...
....
ummm... actually I think this concept doesnt suuit them^^;
I'm not surprised that this happened in the first place, this actually is kinda common......
well then........
oh no......
Well... No wonder. As far as I know 25 years old+ Korean like variety shows more than music shows. In the other hand people under 25 years old like hanging out for New Year more than watching TV.
I'm not surprised after all. I was expecting that to happen. I don't wanna be a meanie but their music is not that good compared to their previous songs. They need to improve their songs.
I mean it's cliche. Kpop fans want surprise, something new.
ohh...that awk
I think it's more important to get great ratings for the music rather then the show. I wouldn't have watched it either, not with the new year so close at the time.
Well the only people watching would have been die-hard fans (like the article says). Even normal sones were probably busy for new years stuff. Plus performances can be found easier online than say tv episodes. With how polarizing music is, expecting any one singer or group to bring in really high ratings is a bit too much.
