French Kiss & The Pillows do Themes for "SKET DANCE" + Voice Acting Role

Shonen Jump’s new-manga-to-anime series “SKET DANCE” will have the AKB48 sub-trio French Kiss sing its opening theme, Jrock band The Pillows will provide the ending theme, and a French Kiss member has a voice acting role!
The "SKET DANCE" series focuses on the misadventures of Sket-Dan, a club at Kaimei High which is dedicated to solving any and all problems on campus. Due to its general lack of meaningful assignments, the campus support group is highly unpopular and only has three members—Swtich, Himeko, and the series’s main character, Bossun. In the manga, cases undertaken by Sket-Dan range from the wacky, like chasing monkeys around the school, to more serious issues like terminal illness.

Starting with the third episode, French Kiss leader Kashiwagi Yuki will voice Rumi, Bossun’s younger sister.

After her first time voicing a character, Kashiwagi said:

It was really difficult. I got advice from professional voice actors and worked extremely hard. You have to be aware of things like speaking groggily if it’s a scene in the morning, which is something people don’t usually notice, so the recording was extremely difficult. It made me appreciate how an anime is made.

She also is a fan of the manga and compared it to AKBA48:

I think the appeal of "SKET DANCE" is the trouble Sket-Dan stirs on campus, occasionally getting wrapped up in goofy situations. That part is similar to AKB48 [laugh]. We're so happy and privileged that we could sing the opening song for an anime packed with so many funny and moving moments. I even had the honor of voicing Bossun's younger sister Rumi [laugh]. Please look forward to it! ──Kashiwagi Yuki (French Kiss)

“SKET DANCE” manga readers should already be familiar with The Pillows, performers of the ending them. In the popular “Kaimei Rock Festival” volume, Sket-Dan forms the band “The Sketchbook” and they play “Funny Bunny” by The Pillows in the school’s annual rock fest.

Sawao Yamanaka, vocalist of The Pillows, talked about channeling his teenage years in writing the anime's ending theme:

Congratulations on the TV anime! The opening theme really matches it. When I got the request I reread the book and seriously recalled what it was like being a teenager to get the lyrics right. Had it not been for the story this time, this song couldn't have been produced. Thank you. The song has become really important to me. I hope all of the "SKET DANCE" fans enjoy it. ──Sawao Yamanaka (the pillows)

The anime will begin broadcasting at 6 PM, April 7 on TV Tokyo.
