Shonen Jump’s new-manga-to-anime series “SKET DANCE” will have the AKB48 sub-trio French Kiss sing its opening theme, Jrock band The Pillows will provide the ending theme, and a French Kiss member has a voice acting role!
The "SKET DANCE" series focuses on the misadventures of Sket-Dan, a club at Kaimei High which is dedicated to solving any and all problems on campus. Due to its general lack of meaningful assignments, the campus support group is highly unpopular and only has three members—Swtich, Himeko, and the series’s main character, Bossun. In the manga, cases undertaken by Sket-Dan range from the wacky, like chasing monkeys around the school, to more serious issues like terminal illness.
Starting with the third episode, French Kiss leader Kashiwagi Yuki will voice Rumi, Bossun’s younger sister.
After her first time voicing a character, Kashiwagi said:
She also is a fan of the manga and compared it to AKBA48:
“SKET DANCE” manga readers should already be familiar with The Pillows, performers of the ending them. In the popular “Kaimei Rock Festival” volume, Sket-Dan forms the band “The Sketchbook” and they play “Funny Bunny” by The Pillows in the school’s annual rock fest.
Sawao Yamanaka, vocalist of The Pillows, talked about channeling his teenage years in writing the anime's ending theme:
The anime will begin broadcasting at 6 PM, April 7 on TV Tokyo.
