Netizen's have criticized Charmaine Sheh's portrayal of a mentally challenged woman on her latest show "My Sister of Eternal Flower".
Hong Kong entertainment giant TVB debuted their new show "My Sister of Eternal Flower" this week. The lead actress of the series, Charmaine Sheh, left netizens with a strong impression after the show's debut. While many of her fans have praised their idol for her work, others are much more critical.
In the show, Charmaine plays the role of a mentally challenged woman whose IQ is that of a 10 year old. However, netizens have claimed that she acts more like a 2 year old than a mentally challenged woman. They also claim that you can see her intelligence through her eyes and that her movements are too exaggerated.
The show has also been put on blast for a scene where Raymond Lam, the show's lead actor, robs a bank as a practical joke. An official complaint was submitted to the show, claiming that robbery should not be portrayed as a practical joke and that the scene could influence children to rob for fun.
Despite the negative response to the show, "My Sister of Eternal Flower" has had relatively good ratings. The premier brought in 1.9 million viewers, an increase from the previous week's "Relic of an Emissary" finale. It is too early to tell whether the negative feedback from the show will result in lower ratings for the show's future or if the viewers will tune in to see what all the buzz is about.

wow... i dont like this at all... just because she acts like a 10 year old doesn't mean she acts ong gou
This reminds me of 阿旺新傳
well the dramas quite funny actually but i do agree that a 10 year old actally acts more mature than we think
Yeah, it's pretty rude to portray a mentally challenged person, but showing a robbery as a practical joke? It's obviously just acting, and pretty sure won't influence children to go rob a bank, obvs.
People can overreact about the littlest things. (about the robbery thing)
can't blame them for 'over-reacting' because you can't underestimate what kids WOULD do nowadays..
kinda sad actually =/
Actually, a murder on a British soap opera was copied by a teenager. He killed his mother.
I wouldn't take things too lightly just because they're on television.
that's so rude! she probably doesn't wanna offend people who really are mentally challenged!
I really like Charmaine... a shame that she quite TVB.... i think that she has done a great job as this character dispite the fact that this is something really new to her.... (i think anyway) i really think that people should not critizise people's acting when they haven't even watched alot of episodes... maybe later on it would be better.... otherwise... don't watch it!!!
In her defense playing a mentally challenged woman would be a challenging role, especially since you don't want the performance to be disrespectful and offensive to those who actually are mentally challenged.
