B1A4 member Gongchan had surgery to remove one of his kidneys, surprising fans who were unaware of his medical condition.
According to the Gongchan's doctor, the idol was diagnosed with congenital narrowing of the ureter, causing one of his kidneys to stop functioning and leaving him in pain.
Gongchan first began to complain about pain during B1A4's "Sleep Well, Good Night" promotions. A medical exam revealed that one of his kidney wasn't functioning. According to his agency, the idol decided to delay surgery until after the group's promotional activities were completed, taking painkillers to relieve the pain.
"Gongchan personally asked to keep the news of his surgery quiet because he did not want to worry his fans," the agency stated.
Gongchan's surgery was successful. He will remain in the hospital for another week before being released and will not be able to do strenuous activities until his condition improves.
