The world's largest online music catalogue Last.fm has recently revealed their "Best of 2011", most listened to artists, and "New discoveries 2011", biggest artists first scrobbled* in 2011.
Surprisingly enough (or not, taking into account that Asian music wave is even taking over Billboard charts now), several Japanese and Korean artists made it into TOP 100 "New discoveries 2011". They placed in the chart as follows:
16. Kyary Pamyu Pamyu
33. Nyan Cat
44. TCY Force
74. Mitsunori Ikeda
99. Momoiro Clover Z
It is pretty astounding really taking in account that by April 2011 Last.fm reported more than 50 billion listeners. This only proves the fact that Asian music is confidently gaining more and more popularity overseas. Congratulations to those who made the list, let's hope to see more Asian artists in TOP 100 "New Discoveries" next year, and who knows, maybe in "Best of 2012" category as well.
