AKB48's Yuki Kashiwagi Believes Group's Dating Ban Is Necessary

AKB48's Yuki Kashiwagi believes that having a dating ban is necessary for the group because they're idols, the singer told Mantan Web.

AKB48's dating ban has gained lots of attention once again as the group found itself in a huge scandal when group member Minami Minegishi was found spending the night with GENERATIONS' member Alan Shirahama and later shaved her head in repentance for breaking the no-dating rule. While some netizens have questioned the necessity of such strict rules, Kashiwagi believes they are just part of idol life.

"I joined AKB48 when I was a 9th grader and never had any doubts about the concept. It's just completely natural to me...Relationships, private life, freedom. I gave up these kind of things because I devote myself to AKB48," she stated.

Kashiwagi also believes the dating ban is necessary to keep fans interested in them.

"If we get into relationships, I wonder if fans' support of members will fade...In order to unify everyone's mind, a dating ban is necessary. After giving it a lot of thought, I've reach the conclusion that idols should always put their fans first and think about what they can do to please them," she said.

Topics such as the group's dating ban, the competition for center position after Atsuko Maeda's graduation and more are all discussed in AKB48's newly released documentary film "Documentary of AKB48: No Flower Without Rain".

I agree with showbooth. They have to preserve their image of sweet and pure idol girls. Living the dream has such a high price to pay, they have to totally devote themselves to the group.

They are selling their image, the untouchable Idol image.
-Of course- they are gonna have strict, crazy rules.
I dunno...These mega-bands have always creeped me out though. T.T

groups like AKB48 aren't groups that sell music, but groups that sell an image (no talking about perv things, but about the cuteness the fanservice, and that kind of things), so it's obvious they need a rule like that... The only thing I see as a right is to give up on the group the moment they start dating... and this kind of girls aren't talented singers or dancers, but most of them are great seyuus!!!

I agree!!! The dating ban is also to protect the girls and who ever might be with them

the whole "idol" situation worries me tbh...young, relatively innocent girls are just such a big perv-magnet, and the fact that they stay out of relationships to appease the aforementioned pervs is just creepy idk

    They´re brainwashed...
If you´re a fan you like a musician or a group because they´re talent, and let´s face none of the AKB members is actually talent so they have to raise the controversy around them...

And that is exactly why we like them. At best, they are mediocre at singing, mediocre at dancing, and they freely admit it. Most of them aren't even that attractive, and yet every day they get up on that stage and sing the best that they can. They are just ordinary girls.

bla bla bla bla.. I DON'T CARE.. i tired about what you so call "talent".. in Indonesia we have tons of "talent show".. i personally feel nauseated of "talent show".. AKB48 is unique, they're not just "sing & dance" but they also entertain & care about us (fans), they're really humble.. Everytime i buy AKB48 stuff, i'm NOT waste my money but i'm USE my money !!

after all they're worth to be my idol :D

They are good singers, some anyway, I think the rule is bull, and she was probably told to say that

Honestly, I have to agree with her. there's a reason why akb is so popular... and it's NOT because they sing well. It's a choir, how do you end up sounding bad in a giant as heck group as that. They're popular because they're cute and they give guys fantasies. Break the fantasy and you're taking away the group's solid base.

1 thing I don't understand and it keeps bugging me whenever I see a "scandal" of an idol dating someone -> if there is a dating-ban rule so that "fans" would continue supporting their idols and have a chance ( lol ) with them ... how can a fan have a chance with an idol if there is a no-dating-rule xDD lol I don't know if you get my point but .. it's stupid :// I think at least idols companies should let them date when they are of age or if they prove they can mix their idol life + personal life good :3 that's just my opinion (: I don't care if my favourite idol dates or not - I will be even more happier and support her/him more if she/he has found their soulmate :3

I agree completely! The rule's just there to allow obsessed fans to indulge in their fantasy.

I don't think any fan really believes that. It's just an argument generated by someone pushing an agenda.

Anti-akb'ers eat it up like cake because it reinforces their own beliefs.

look - you have your own opinion and I cherish that but I'm just saying what I see (: ( I'm going to talk about Jpop because I know Jpop and Kpop fans don't really get along >< ) : whenever I hear that a member of HSJ will have a kiss scene in a drama or his character will be dating someone, I always see comments like "I'm so jealous, I hate that girl!" "How can she be with him, she is so ugly!" etc. I've even seen comments like "Die b***h" ... I mean like seriously? It's not even in real life!! And those people call themselves fans? In my opinion fans should support their favourite idol whether he/she is in a relationship or not (: I still love, adore and support all the male idols who had revealed their relationships - I might even say that I support and love them more than before :3
I'm a big fan of AKB and their sisters groups but I can't stand all these "scandals" going around them, it pisses me off how fans are being "possessive". Did you saw that Alan apologized for causing trouble even though he didn't break any rules? I'm sure he apologized to Mii-chan in private ( because it's their PRIVATE life ) but fans continue to hurt him. And words hurt more than actions (:
lol I think I wrote too much xD but my point of view is that I don't tolerate this dating-ban rule unless it has a limit (: I think companies and fans should trust their idols more :3 that's all :p
