AKB48's "Manatsu no Sounds good!" took home the prestigious "Japan Record Award", being named the best record by the Japan Composer's Association.
AKB48's win is the second year in a row that the group has taken home the "Japan Record Award", making them 1 of only 8 artists to win the award twice. They are the only girl group to win the award twice.
"I am so happy! Last year we desperately wanted this award, but this year we like we had to win it as the 2nd chapter of AKB48 begins. I'm proud to have received the award against so many other great artists," group manager Minami Takahashi stated.
Last year, AKB48 won the "Japan Record Award" for their song "Flying Get".
In addition to announcing the winner of the "Japan Record Award", the award for best new artist was awarded to singer-songwriter Ieiri Leo, becoming the first female soloist to the win the award in 6 years when the award went to ayaka.
"To remain true to this honorable award, I will continue making music sincerely," she stated.
