Just like in every elections, even idols have the chance to make an appeal to charm their voters. AKB48's members, from Team A to Team 4, have now started their campaign for the general election. Each "elections appeal" have been posted on AKB48's official Youtube channel.
The 4th Senbatsu Election will not only determined the new "center" but will also determined the chosen-one's for AKB48's 27th single. This year's election have attracted more attention after Atsuko Maeda's decision to graduate. Oshima Yuko, who ranked no.2 last year and no.1 backed in 2010, is rumored to be this year's front-runner, and said to be her last chance to be AKB48's center. However, other members like Takahashi Minami, Mayu Watanabe, and Kashiwagi Yuki are not far behind.
The 4th Senbatsu Election will be held at Nippon Budokan on June 6th.

wow!!!! nice one.... AKB48
It's a shame to see Atsuko leave and I wish her luck for the future, but this really throws the election wide open. Due to the rivalry between some Yuko-fans and some Atsuko-fans, I can't see many of Atsuko's votes going to Yuko, so that means they will go to someone else....
Personally, I am voting for Mayuyu and I would really like her to win, or at least get into the top 3. And i'd like to see Takamina in the top 3 as well because she is leader of Team A and has been such a big part of AKB48 for many years. I can't believe Takamina was only ranked 7th last year and I hope she gets a lot more votes.
I so hope that Mayu will win
I'm worried for them because Girl's Generation already made their debut in Japan.....AKB48's fans might switch to SNSD...
I think you don't need to worry too much cause AKB has special place in their fans heart... ^_^
Even if SNSD were at AKB popularity level in Japan, SNSD has 9 people that are focused on Korea and international expansion- just AKB alone has like 60 people out there doing shows and programs all over Japan on pretty much a daily basis. Send a senbatsu, undergirl and relative nobody together spread out in groups and they can pretty much get more media exposure in a day than SNSD can get in a month.
After watching Katayama Haruka's appeal first, I was quite disappointed in the other ones. Almost everyone else is (mostly) so serious and she's totally hamming it up and having a good time.
Haachan.
they're trying to look angelic and pure again
but now they have lost a lot of fans already, including me
Angelic and pure? I never thought of them that way but I'm not saying that they are sluts either....
only in japan would a bunch of little brats in bikinis get this kind of attention -___-
They wear bikinis for their summer song- that's 1 in 5 of their major PV per year- I think we're at four now. I don't know how they got this "bikini" image- perhaps because ponytail was one of their major breakout songs- but that's really not their image. Altered seifuku is their main image- aside from PV and photoshoots, that's mostly what they wear. In concerts- ponytail/kachusha aren't bikini songs- it's still seifuku- and even though the skirts flip up, it's still not even as skimpy as most pop culture schoolgirl getups in the west.
In short, if bikini is your image of AKB, then you're not even scratching the surface. There are good singers. There are good dancers. There are meaningful songs. There's a lot of crap too, but what would you expect from "quantity before quality" idols? ^_^

go Kuumin I know u will make into one of the UG
-___- election??/ akb48........... too much
Nothing new. 4th one already. It sells CDs, and helps them know where the money is. The producers still do a lot of arm-twisting, but the fans have a relatively large effect on who appears. They're really too popular for even mass voting to do much now, but for the low low price of $6,000,000, you could have bought out the whole senbatsu in 2010, and instead of Yuko and Acchan dancing around in lingerie in Heavy Rotation, it would have been relative nobodies. If you were less ambitious and just wanted say Mayu to take over center 2 years early, it would have only costed you $250,000.
I hope Mayu wins! :3
I am hoping Yuko wins. She has a big chance, but so does Mayu.
Not going to win, but let's go Katayama Haruka! Let's get a boost from last year!
awesome, whoever wins, congrats!!
Mayu or Yuko for the win please.
