AKB48's creator and producer Yasushi Akimoto has sued tabloid publication "Shukan Shincho" after they published an article claiming the money used to start AKB48 came from illegal activities.
Last week, the tabloid began running a series of stories claiming that Koutarou Shiba, one of the people responsible for AKB48's existence, was involved in bank transfer scams and underground casinos. The money raised was used to help form AKB48.
"I have no knowledge that Shiba has such a past, but when I asked him about it, he told me ‘None of that is true and I can prove it.'...If I had knowledge of this, I wouldn’t have worked together with him," Akimoto stated.
Akimoto has sued the tabloid for 110 million yen ($1,405,932 USD) for damages to his reputation and name. He is also asking for them to issue a public apology.

Well when someone is famous there are allways people who are trying to get attention by digging out (and making up) scandalous stories about them...
God, what's next? Follow-up stories claiming that Akimoto has had sex with members of the group at Christmas parties etc?!?
