About Me
I am a nursing student. I hope to become an international travel nurse. I want to see the world and learn new languages and experience new cultures all while working as a nurse whereever I am needed. I enjoy almost all kinds of music except twangy country, rap,and hip-hop. I'm eclectic in my taste in music as I have everyone from Jeff healy to Kittie on my mp3 player. my newest obsession though is Gackt and Hyde. I'm really enjoying every song I've been able to find, and I'm looking forward to listening to more.
I'm single and working. no kids. no smoking. occasional drink. I usually drink wine or brandy. Vodka gives me a migraine. I really like Sake.
I enjoy reading, especially poetry and the occasional gothic romance. Currently I'm reading the new Black Dagger Brotherhood novel by J.R. Ward, and Sweeny Todd, and Old Boy. I usually have more than one book going at a time, depends on my mood and very often they are completely different genres. I enjoy reading the lyrics to music. I hate it when you can't understand what they are singing (incomprehensible growling does not a song make).
I like watching movies. but I don't watch regular TV. I hate reality shows they are all just made up drama anyway. |
My favorite artists and albums
Japanese favorites right now are Gackt and Hyde - blame it on Moon child. I'm not familiar with any other japanese rock bands yet. I'm hoping this community will help me discover more.
American favorites: Jeff Healy: Greatest Hits, Full Blown Chaos: Wake the Demons, Kittie: Oracle, Poisonblack: Rush (song), No Warning, Hatebreed, Him, Godsmack, Sevendust, Nickleback, Three days grace, Papa roach, The Crow soundtrack, Freddie vs. Jason soundtrack, Dog Fashion Disco: Baby (song), HInder, Silvertide,
Local bands: Crossfade, Souls Harbor, Numb 909, Sugharim |
How do I spend my free time
studying for nursing school, reading, watching movies. I read poetry, literature, and fiction: sci-fi, historical romance, gothic romance, murder mysteries, and anime/manga (when I can)
I like to search for music videos on veoh and youtube, especially lately for Gackt. I'm hoping to find some Furin Kazan and hopefully english subtitled too.
I like to watch films in their original languages with english subtitles, becuase dubbed in english never works, and it just reminds me of those wonderful saturday morning kung-fu movies that were fabulous, but very very very badly dubbed. I'd like to find those movies without the english dubbing, I bet they'd be even better |
My favorite movies
Moonchild - Gackt does the coolest stunt I've seen in a long time in this, plus he wears tight black leather pants almost the whole movie. * sigh *
300 - becuase it's cool to think that 300 men could stand up against such impossible odds and kick such incredible ass doing it. Plus those spartans were sporting 8 packs... * fans self *
Gladiator - also a great kick ass movie. I'm interested in historical costuming and appreciated the occasional attempts at accuracy.
The matrix - ok becuase it's got cool moves, I love trinity's outfit, and keanu is kinda hot.
Anna and the king - becuase I like actor that plays the king (won fat?) he's hot too.
Dangerous Liasons - with John malkovich and Glenn close. it's a fabulous movie that's been redone a billion times, but this one is still the best and it's got lots of people you'll recognize. Plus the costuming is awesome.
The last samurai - ok not realistic, but awesome costuming and the same actor from
Anna and the King is the main general in this one. I cried at the end when Tomcat give the katana to the emporor.
Pan's Labyrith - an excellent film, very visual and gothic. A dark fairy tale
Night Watch - this movie has the coolest use of subtitles I've seen in a film. Definitely watch it in russian language with english subtitles, it's a whole new experience from just spoken english or without subtitles.
I can't wait to see Bunraku when it comes out. |
My favorite series
Babylon 5 : I thought the characters where interesting. I also liked the continuity of the series. Each episode was written with consideration for the whole story arc. It was written to play to for 5 years, and so had a defined beginning, middle, and end.
I was a little dissapointed with the spin-offs though. If you get a chance you should look up Tom Smith's "5 Years" Babylon 5 Filk of "1 week" by the Barenaked ladies. If you like B5, you'll laugh your tail off.
I like CSI the original. I like the characters, and I love the science. I always thought that would be a cool job, that or an ME. But then I found out that you have to be an MD to be an ME, and I thought why spend $200,000 to learn to become a doctor, just to work on dead people? seemed like a waist of talent to me. |
Things I like
poetry, lyrics, music, comic strips, conceptispuzzles.com online (the picture logic puzzles - fill-a-pic, link-a-pic, and pic-a-pic are a few of my favorites. I like literature: Onegin, The English Patient, The education of little tree, Letters to a young poet (Ranier Maria Rilke), and the possibility of being (RAnier Maria Rilke),
Fiction: Black sun rising trilogy (C.S. Friedman), Laurell K. Hamilton ( Anita Blake Series), Sherilynn Kenyon (Dark-Hunter series), J.R. WArd (Black Dagger Brotherhood series)
I love Singapore Chow Mei-fun, that's made my the chinese family at Ocean Dragon near my house, lots of curry and wonderful flavor. I also like Moo Goo Gai Pan
I love sushi and every japanese dish I've tried. although to be fair, I've only tried americanized japanese from chain store japanese steak houses. I love saki too, I even got to try apple flavored saki which actually went well with my sushi.
I like my sister's roast pork tenderloin. I also love my friend christy's thai Larb. Her husband is from thailand and he's taught her how to make some killer thai cuisine.
I like rosemary, garlic, and black pepper.
I like movies, of almost all kinds. I really like foreign horror, and dramas. I like to watch them in the original languages with english subtitles. It annoys me to try and watch something badly dubbed in english. and besides, sometimes the subtitles differ from the spoken english and the subtitles make more sense. Case in point, "Advent Children" and " Curse of the Golden Flower" both great movies, which lost significantly to english dubbing, the english subtitles were much better and more poetic.
I love the old saturday-morning kung-fu movies. They were alot of fun, but unfortunately they were horribly dubbed. If I could remember any of the titles, I'd love to find these movies in their original languages (probably cantonese) and then just with english subtitles, I'd bet the updated translation would be alot better. But I wouldn't even know where to look. * if you know, please email me *

Things I dislike
unsolicited porn/sex site emails drive me up the wall. Ad nauseaum questionairre surveys, and chain letters that promise to wreck my life if I don't immediately bug 10 of my friends too. I just don't have 10 friends with email addresses, so I'm fubar every time.
no-call, no-show. almost everyone has a cell phone, have the dang courtesy to call me and say you can't make it, don't waist my time making me wait on when you know you aren't going to show up.
I'm southern. I was raised to be polite and to say "M'am" and "Sir" when speaking to someone I don't know well, or when addressing someone who's position is higher than mine. (for instance even though a nurse might me younger than me, because she outranks me at work, I address her as M'am.) Some people get mad, because they see it as an age thing. They see it as only something you use with someone that is older than you. I was raised to believe it is a polite form of addressing someone. I get tired of explaining that, and having to defend my courtesy. Something is wrong with society when people are offended by common courtesy.
I hate WINTERGREEN. the scent makes me physically ill, like I get extremely nauseaus and break out in a cold sweat and get light headed and if I don't leave immediately I start dry heaving. Ben-gay is the bane of my existance. And of course my step-bitch ( I mean step-witch, .... step-mother) just loves wintergreen mints and can't remember that I hate wintergreen.
I also dislike SAmbuco - I can only take black licorice in very small doses (like maybe 1 black jelly bean a year). drinking black licorice liquour is too much.
I hate migraines. Just kill me know. I take my medicine but it's still a matter of just trying to sleep the misery off. It only works half the time. If anyone claims to have a migraine and they can : laugh, eat a meal, or talk quickly.. they are faking it. laughing, increases the pressure in your head, migraines generally make you nauseas and even talking hurts.
I abhor my mother and my asshole ex-husband. Let's hope we avoid each other in our next life and that poetic irony reigns supreme.
I hate it when people talk on their cell phones at work, work is work time, talk on your own time not on the clock. I'm not a smoker, and I don't like when people smoke at work. here's why. I rarely get my 30 minute lunch break in a 12 hr shift, if I'm lucky I get 10 minutes to get my food and eat it before I get beeped. and yet, a smoker gets 2 15 minute smoke breaks plus their 30 minute lunch break ,and you better believe they make time for that. but that means I have to cover their patients while they are off the floor (increasing my work load). but do they cover my full lunch so I don't get beeped ... no. so I feel like, dude they make nicotine patches for reason.. smoke on your own time. And don't get me started on sleeping on the clock either. I have a VERY strong ethic. I don't feel right if I'm not doing something. there is always something to do, there is no reason you should be sitting around doing nothing. |
