Problems With New Grand Theft IV Game

Gamers Around The Country Report Errors And Difficult Play

Toronto - After the first day of release there are reports coming in that the new Grand Theft Auto IV video game appears to have some problems.
Users are reporting that the game is freezing up during the introduction, and other scenes, and problems are being reported on both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 game stations.
Gamers are complaining that they are not able to get to the online features of the game, or that after purchasing the game and returning home that they are not able to get past the introduction screens.
This is potentially a huge problem for Rockstar Video Games, the manufacturer of the game. The video game has been alive with anticipation buzz for nearly a year, and this could radically affect the sales for the new game release.
Before these problems were reported, sales for the game were projected to top $400 million dollars. Now, with the new problems, it will be interesting to see how the projected sales for the new video game will be affected.
The department store Woolworth’s is claiming that it has been selling the game at a rate of 200 games a minute the first day of sales.

Grand theft auto IV

Hold on to your Glock, another violent video game is poised to blast its way into the record books.
In fact, some analysts are predicting that “Grand Theft Auto IV” for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 could be the most lucrative launch in entertainment history.
As in bigger than “Spider-Man 3.” Bigger than Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Bigger, even, than the ballyhooed launch of “Halo 3” last fall.
Some believe that by year’s end, the Mature-rated “GTA IV” will gross nearly $800 million — almost twice the amount of last year’s highest grossing movie, the third “Pirates of the Caribbean.”
Depending on your point of view, those figures are either impressive or depressing. The infamous series has a devoted fanbase, but the games themselves are hedonistic and almost unabashedly violent. If previous versions of Grand Theft Auto are any indication, “GTA IV,” should be packed with more immorality and blood-soaked carnage than you can shake a joystick at.
In “Grand Theft Auto: Vice City,” for example, players could pay a prostitute for sex, then kick her to death. You could kill policemen, distribute porn, mule cocaine for the mob and chuck Molotov cocktails into the street. You could murder characters with Gatling guns, chain saws, meat cleavers and screwdrivers.
It’s enough to send the Mario Brothers running to the confessional.
Peter Larkin, store manager of Game Stop at Oak Park Mall, is expecting big things for “GTA IV.” Before the game went on sale, Larkin had — through pre-orders — sold out all of his store’s copies of the limited-edition version of the game.
But Larkin says he’s not sure if “GTA IV” will outsell “Halo 3,” the previous high-water mark in video game sales.
“They’re clearly not advertising like they did with Halo 3,” Larkin said. “But you have to keep in mind the ‘GTA’ franchise is older than ‘Halo,’ and has a larger fanbase. And where ‘Halo 3’ was just sold for Xbox 360, ‘GTA IV’ is sold for both Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, so there are many more potential customers.”
There’s also more controversy. Because of the game’s graphic content, Larkin cards every buyer where there is a question to make sure they’re older than 17. If a teen comes in with a parent, he will read line by line a description of why the game is rated M.
“Oftentimes the parent turns to the kid and says, ‘Oh, I don’t think so,’ ” he said. “This game is as graphic as an R-rated film.”
Craig Anderson, distinguished professor of psychology at Iowa State University and an expert in violent video games, has not seen the new version of “GTA,” but if it holds true to form, he’s sure it has content many parents will find objectionable.
“Every month, new studies come out on the violent video game effects on children,” he said. “The research base just gets stronger and stronger. In general, violent video games have been shown to increase the likelihood of aggressive behavior and aggressive thinking.”
But in the absence of other risk factors, including poverty, abuse and broken homes, Anderson said, the effect is lessened.
“If you ask if violent video games will turn a normal, well-adjusted child into a school shooter, the answer is clearly no,” he said. “Being in a stable environment does tend to protect a person.

kane and lynch dead men The dope bag map pack
Posted 25 April, 2008 (8 months ago) | Views: 99 | View comments (0) | Add comment |
Kane and Lynch aren't the nicest personalities in videogame history. To be frank, they are some of the worst guys you'll get to meet when playing videogames. But that's OK as they provide some relief from the always-predictable Hollywood-like leading men that only want to save the world and crop up in most games.
After launching in November last year to some mixed reviews and at least one high-profile editor firing (hey, these guys take real names and kick real butts even while being pure videogame characters) Kane & Lynch is getting a bit of DLC available later during this month. ( came out on the 17th) its free to downlaod on Microsoft Xbox Live Marketplace and the PlayStation Store.
The bag consists of four maps. Clean Cut is the first map and is centered on an LA construction site that the Russian Mafia uses to conduct its drug dealing business; the second map, named Hooker's Trail, has the players clashing with the Yakuza criminal organization in downtown Tokyo, while Flying High takes players to a drug baron's mansion in the Venezuelan jungle for a little raiding action. The last of the new map is titled Hasta La Vista (where's Arnold to add a good old "Baby" and pops you in Havana with a mission to ambush a military convoy.
All these maps are specifically designed for the Fragile Alliance multiplayer mode of Kane & Lynch. The mode is based on earning loot from a variety of locations defended by computer-controlled enemies. Up to 8 players need to work together to secure as much loot as possible in an allotted timeframe. Sounds pretty standard up to this point, but the fun is just beginning. After the successful heist, the players get the option to jump at each others’ throats to get all the money. Only one player can get out on top and win.
