Kai, born as Uke Yutaka (受毛 豊) on October 28th, 1981 in Tokushima, is the drummer, leader (by volunteer), and occasional back-up vocalist in the GazettE.
He was raised in the outskirts of Tokyo by his mother in a single-parent family in which his mother adored him. At a relatively young age, his parents separated. His brother went with his father. For the record, because his mother was born in New Jersey, Kai really likes the United States of America.
He has tried to play many different instruments (relatively more experienced on violin) he decided on the drums. He had to save up for years before he could buy a set (this was around the junior high years). Kai learned his skills from a friend of his mother's and at the time, he legitimately had to bang on pots and pans and paper plates placed in the format of a drumset.
Before the GazettE, Kai was in a band called Mareydi†Creia. After it disbanded, many indie bands at the time practically fought over Kai because of a drummer deprivation at the time. His excuse for not joining those bands was "I don't want to join a band, I want to drum". However, when the GazettE jumped into the picture, Kai was compelled to become its favorite masochistic drummer--their only masochistic drummer.
Kai is known to be a very sunny and smiley person. In fact, he is well-known for his "cute" smiles and "unique" laugh. Interestingly enough, the first impression he gave some of the band members is a little depressing. That's because it's "hard work being this cute". He is also known for his love of cooking though according to Reita, it's not very impressive. Visually, it's quite appealing.
In late 2002 to early 2003, Kai joined the GazettE after Yune left. Their first recorded song, Wakaremichi is recorded with Yune on the drums--their only song recorded with Yune on the drums.
As a side note, Kai also hosts his own radio show called Kai's Premium Radio. Apparently, it used to be Reita's Radiojack.
