Gacharic Spin (often shortened to Gachapin) was formed in 2009 by bassist F Chopper Koga, after she left her previous band THE PINK☆PANDA. She’d been in The Pink Panda since she was not quite 17, and she was apparently really discouraged and considering quitting playing after the break-up, but she’s a phenomenal bassist so enough people pushed her to keep going that she decided to form a new band. She and Hana had gone to high school together, and they’d played in a band together in their spare time then. Koga decided that if she was going to start over, it had to be with Hana, and that if Hana said no she wouldn’t do it at all.
Hana was also without a band at the time (she’d been in a bunch of other bands by then, doing drums, guitar, vocals and bass, though nothing as high-profile as The Pink Panda), and she said yes immediately.
The lead singer they found was Armmy, a long-time acquaintance of Koga’s. They also originally had a guitarist called EITA. After EITA left they auditioned a bunch more guitarists before finding Tomo-Zo.
Gacharic Spin recorded several singles and a mini-album, VIRGIN-A, with Armmy, before she had to leave the band due to illness in 2012. Instead of auditioning for a new lead singer, Gachapin did their next tour with Hana doing some lead vocals, along with a number of guest lead vocalists stepping in for a few dates each. One of them was Oreo Reona, Tomo-Zo’s ex-bandmate in the all-girl pop-rock group EU PHORIA, who also played keyboard for the tour. Another was Fuki of Light Bringer. Lead singer Mayu from Koga’s old band The Pink Panda was also one of the guest vocalists. After the tour Oreo Reona joined Gachapin as a permanent member
A few months later (during which Gachapin released their first single with their new line-up) the four of them teamed up with Fuki for the DOLL$BOXX project. DOLL$BOXX released their debut (and so far only) album, Dolls Apartment, in December 2012. Since then Gacharic Spin have added two dancers to their line-up and released their first two full-length albums, Delicious and Winner, with Hana singing lead, and Light Bringer have also released at least one album. There’s been no word on a second DOLL$BOXX album, but they have done a few shows together this year and they have more scheduled, so who knows.
Gacharic Spin are less metal and more rock than DOLL$BOXX. The main difference is in vocal style, though; it’s Fuki’s incredible vocal power and purity of pitch that makes DOLL$BOXX songs a blow-your-face-off experience.
