I think they are different.
Both quality but very different things.
Korean pop attempts to achieve perfection across the board whether it be sound, looks or choreography - it also seems to be very high budget.
Japanese pop is - at the moment, of the very same quality as K Pop is, however at the moment, as a result of the Hallyu Wave and the current style of Kpop, Kpop is more marketable and popular with a larger international fan base.
It is also important to note the current success of Korean Artists in Japan. Even though the Japanese music industry is shrinking, year on year Korean groups are gaining a larger share of the Japanese market.
Subsequently. While the quality is the same - and in this way, they don't beat each other because they are different. It is important to note that on a global scale, K Pop is becoming much more a part of Pop Culture than J Pop.
Also there are far more Korean immigrants, and there is a far larger Korean diaspora across the world than Japanese ones, which aids the spreading of K Pop in other countries.
haha i hate to say it but my people cannot swallow their pride. yes, we know kpop and korea's entertainment industry, as well as china's, in general is based on the japanese industry.
-variety shows
-subtitles on shows
-fashion
-music
all these things are from japan, not to mention half of our snack foods and drinks are just copies, i remember my cousins in korea thought pocari sweat was a korean drink and pocky is copy of pepero.
we need to fool ourselves into believing we are better than the japanese, ignoring all the influences they have on our culture, feeling over shadowed in the world, but at the same time respecting and admiring them, though we do not show it.
there is no reason for us to have subtitles on our shows, haha
in japan it is used for:
- Useful for senior citizen that are losing their hearing.
- People like to be able to turn down the volume to avoid being a nuisance to others and still follow the program.
- Educational. Kids get kanji practice while watching TV
i studied in japan for many years off and on because my father has been doing business there, so i have grown up and spend a lot of time in japan. even my father tell me koreans do business very dirty and need to live with more compassions.
kpop is part of korean government policy, its called "nation branding",
the world has been seeing more and more of korea in recent years because the government spends billions every year in promoting "korean" culture for economic success, to gain the appeal japan has, but they never had to do such things, their rise was natural and completely surprised the world,
not just korean entertainment but other companies in industry is all driven by government support like hyundai and samsung are all sucking up koreas money to stay alive and decreasing the living condition and atmosphere of korea, so my father hates the korean business and way of thinking,
i am sorry for writing so much, but i think many people here are missing many many facts, kpop and korea in general has not risen due to popularity or uniqueness but its a national effort
The Atlantic just published an article slamming Facebook where the only expert they quoted was a shrink who had not seen patients ever. So the Atlantic make stuff up and pretends it is well researched.

the lack of wisdom, why are my people so trashy every they are? their attitude is horrible and distasteful, and they want to be loved by the world? they hate us because they act like that
what a little troll you are lol
best you can do is a 2009 article? lol
a little troll? what do you mean the best i can do is a 09 article? this committee has existed for over 15 years, its a pathetic plea for national recognition, inferiority complex at its finest

actions like this make our country and people look so stupid haha and look at the all the adds on the site, its all plastic surgery garbage
lol oh god...so you are Korean 선화씨?
j-boygroups&girlgroups (idol groups) are meh, K-boygroups&girlgroups (idol groups) are awesome
in other genres, J > K
K does have better singers though
but J has better & more singer-songwriters
K-rock's as bad as C-rock
and J-idols are better at acting than K-idols
K-rock is almost non-existent unlike J-rock! J-rock rules!
definitely...no question about it...kpop is 100 percent better than jpop....
JPop have more meaningful lyrics most of the time... and Kpop artist are a bit too slutty at some times... I like both Kpop and Jpop but its time Jpop (especially Johnnys Entertainment) realizes that not everybody prefers twenty year olds dressed up in uniforms dancing to some old beat from 30 years ago.
Where I'm from, k-pop absolutely trumps j-pop. Probably the reason is because Japan has the second largest music industry in the world and they probably don't need to promote it internationally as much as with Korea... I don't really like to compare j-pop and k-pop, they're two different leagues...
i dont think you guys understand that kpop is tailored for the western audience, their goal is to penetrate the market, jpop groups are all for tiny niche markets that no one really likes anyway, remember you can only see tiny parts of japanese music culture that a strange population on the internet seem to grasp and permeate through the net
hey 선화씨? can i ask what kind of music you listen to?
i like a lot contemporary and house-esque
such as?
hmmm...is there even a competition? I think that most JPOP artist (aside from jpop divas like Ayu, Namie, and Koda Kumi) are not really interested in bringing their artists abroad. Jpop has been existing for so long, but the likes of Johnny Kitagawa doesn't seem all too keen in bringing his boys overseas (except for the US). Maybe he wants a complete monopoly of them?lol.
Moreover, I think that Kpop are branching in Japan because of Japan's strong market. They would earned a lot MORE in Japan than what they can earned in Korea. Take TVXQ for example.
Lastly, most jpop artist are selling well in Japan, why do they need to go abroad if they are raking the charts and millions in their own country?
Besides, is there a Kpop act that have beaten my beloved Johnny's in the Oricon charts?
Oh well, a true music lover knows no boundaries!!! You listen to it, fell in love, and hopes that you can share the happiness to someone else.![]()
I do agreed with your comments~ Jpop/Jrock doesn't have to selling/promotes their music abroad etc.. Japan is da 2nd biggest industrial music in da world, so it's pointless if they need to abroad their own music since they get HUGE popularity & earn millions in their own country~
Kpop need to do something, so they should branch/promotes their music around da world & they had targeted to enter through da Japan's market, since they do know Japan is da one of the HUGE market in da world~
*The wise person knows what is best and what is not if they do not look at da appearance and superficial~ Music is not simply concerned with external appearance, but da artistic and musical beauty itself.* ![]()
its funny how people are so fearful of Kpop artists beating Jpop artists in oricon charts lol
talking about japan being 2nd largest market is so 5 years ago lol who doesnt know that by now? lets get some new material please
doesnt matter if its the largest market if its bad product nobody will give a damn
i love how people bash and at the end say 'can we all just get along?' lol
very unbias opinon for a crew member i say lol
