well, I'm a idol otaku and sure I am proud to be one
I am, by all means, an huge fan of anime, but I would never be proud of being labeled as an otaku because in my opinion, it is a rather derogatory term used against people who like anime since otaku means obsession in Japanese, the sort of people who will get cooped up in the house to watch anime. People shouldn't call others or themselves an otaku simply because they happen to be an anime devotee
I am, but not in the derogatory sense.
I used to be pretty much of an otaku, but it lessened after some years...
Was proud of it though.
Not exactly sure if I'd call myself an otaku, but if people think I am, I wouldn't mind. I'd be proud of it. Even though there's often a negative taste to it, many people use it in a more positive light too.
I consider being called an OTAKU a badge of honor and I ware it proudly. If any one would try to use it as and insult I would make them look stupid by saying thank you and if they still wanted to hassle me I would kick their a**es so hard their great grand children would feel it!
Hmm, a JE and anime/manga otaku, I would say? xD Am I proud...I'm not sure, but it's certainly a part of who I am and I'm not ashamed of who I am? (> <)
I am proud for who I am, yes! But I don't know if I would call myself an Otaku since I'm not into Anime and Manga anymore. XD
If I must reiterate what I said on my previous post, I truly respect all anime fans and I am proud to be one but to speak the harsh truth, long time anime fans rarely, if ever, use the term to describe their passion for anime. Don't get me wrong, I used to call myself an otaku all those years ago back in the late 90s and early noughties, back when the Slayers series were trademark names in the anime world but I just got tired of it after a while. I wouldn't mind all that much if people choose to use the term colloquially but I wouldn't call anyone an otaku, even if they are, tragically, a 'true' otaku. Even so, it makes me wonder why no one wanted to help them out, what became of those who became detached from society. If you've seen what I've seen, I think you would regret that you ever called someone an otaku. Being an anime fan is one thing, but being a true otaku is a whole different ball game

most shut ins are not like that because of their obsession it's cause people ae society has told them that what they love or what their obsession is is wrong or immoral so they became ashamed of them selves son they shut them selves away from the world so as to hide their shame if more people took the time to get to know a person instead of judging them they wouldn't have ended up that way and if more and more people sit there and say hey i'm who i am and this is what i like if you don't like it or respect it then just go take a flying leap then maybe just maybe it would give the people who feel so ashamed of them selves they shut them selves off from the world the courage to step into the light again and give this world another chance but in order to do that they need to feel proud of what they are and what they love and at lease start to love them selves i know this from experience cause i use to be that way but i decided one day i was tired of feeling down about who i was and decided to claim what i was and am and to tell the world if they don't like it they can stick it where the sun don't shin that's just who i am so yeah if someone call me an OTAKU i would sit there look at them and say thank you at least i know who and what i am and i damn proud to be me and if you do that when people try to put you down for who you are they lose the power they have over you and you gain power over them instead and the one thing that brought me to this realization was seeing someone bullying another kid cause their love for comics before i knew it i got pissed and started yelling and screaming at the bullies i even kicked on in the head it was the first time i had ever talked to someone out side of my household in three years let alone it was the first time i an emotion about any thing in point in my life so i'm damn proud to say I AM AN OTAKU AND PROUD TO BE ONE CAUSE THIS IS WHO I AM AND DON'T CARE IF ANY ONE LIKES IT OR NOT AND IF YOU'RE ONE TOO YOU SHOULD BE PROUD TOO CAUSE WE ARE WHO WE ARE AND IF THE WORLD DON'T LIKE IT THEY CAN GO SHOVE IT!
