ex-THE EGOIST's Setsuna Admits To Strangling 20-Year-Old Woman

THE EGOIST's ex-guitarist Setsuna admitted to assaulting 20-year-old Uran Hirayama in Chiba, Japan. The woman was found dead a few days ago.

On the evening of December 9th, 2017 a friend of Uran informed the police that around 3pm Uran hint on committing suicide in a message to her. After receiving this message she tried to contact Uran again but the woman didn't react to any message or call anymore.

At 9:15pm, when the police arrived at the apartment in Chiba where Uran was living alone, they found her dead on her futon - with marks of pressure on her neck. Suffocation is the official cause of death the police revealed on December 11th.

She was in a close relationship with 30-year-old musician Setsuna (Keisuke Kawasaki) who is said to be married to another woman. Details on the relationship between him and Uran were also revealed by her friend who called the police. She posted photos of LINE conversations and more between Setsuna and Uran via Uran's twitter account for which she has the login data.

After learning about their history the police arrested Setsuna, accusing him of assault. Later he admitted: "After strangling her, I locked the door and left."

According to the tweets that were posted on Uran's twitter after her death, despite his marriage Setsuna and Uran were in a relationship and had planned to commit double suicide. In Japan there's even a special word for double suicide out of love. Some people consider it as romantic since they leave the world together and might be able to be together in their next life.

Setsuna posted the following tweet in the afternoon of December 9th that is deleted by now: "In the future, in any way and any world I want to be one with Uran." while Uran's Twitter profile descriptions says: "After being reborn I hope to marry Keisuke-kun."

A handwritten last will by Uran was found in her room.

This is a sad story and just a tragic event that didn't need to happen (considering it seemed Setsuna planned to just kill her despite whatever he had told Uran prior to her death) after the Zama serial killer story broke out, I really hoped Japan would put an emphasis on talking about mental health and suicide, but it seems such things won't happen until Japan finally speaks up about it, but at what point is enough enough?

The dude killed a woman, I don't get how him chickening out of a murder suicide plan is what you decided to focus on.

I meant he's very pathetic to be able to strangle his girl to death, but too cowardly to kill himself. Especially considering that he's Japanese. Suicide is part of their culture.

Pause. I'm going to have to pause your right there. Suicide is no more "part" of Japanese culture than it is yours or mines. There's a lot that makes the whole that is Japanese culture, such as Kabuki, traditional architecture, The Tales of Genji, etc.

Suicide is a worldly issue and an issue that has it's hand in mental illness.  Which please do not link me to a Wikipedia article talking about Suicide in Japan, when the suicide statistics for the US are almost 4 times the amount of the figures projected in Japan. The dude's pathetic because he murdered a woman; took someone else's own life because at the end of the day he didn't want to be in a serious relationship with her, nor was he willing to own up to any of his mistakes that his cheating would have brought him down the road. He's pathetic because he's a piece of shit, not because he "was too cowardly to kill himself." Which is vehemently one of the most messed up things to say and is a huge part of the problem that contributes to societies mentally to not talk about mental health or people who have suicidal thoughts. Which come on.....you wouldn't say that to someone irl who's suicide attempt fails. So why even say it now? (Also don't get me started on your emoji, because it feels like the addition of it, treats this entire topic as a joke when it's not.)

I wasn't laughing at this topic, just the way you worded your previous comment. Anyway, maybe suicide being acceptable is a thing of the past in Japan. I hope so. But me saying someone is a coward for backing out of a suicide pact is not hurting the discussion on mental health. Cowardice has kept me from killing myself many times. I didn't want to live, but I was too scared to die. I've had years of therapy for my depression and anxiety + I take a lot of medication, too. I encourage discussion about mental health issues every week an Anonymous 12 step meeting I'm in charge of. Unless you think I'm lying, you must see I'm on your side about this. Take your anger management issues to a therapist, not to JPA.

This is absolutely insane! Even if they agreed to do it together, he shouldn't have just left her there. Honestly, if Japan had the death penalty, he deserves it. Something tells me he didn't just "chicken out".

Also, funny how the picture they used of him for this article is him with glasses and he looks totally normal compared to his glamorous pictures with the band.

So he is not in any bands right now? If so, at least that means he isn't dragging bandmates down with him.

Technically, he is still in the band since they haven't announced anything official. But I'm pretty sure he will be kicked out of the band as well as lose his contract with his agency for reputation purposes. And I'm pretty sure he will be sent to prison for quite some time.

THE EGOIST disbanded in April 2017. Setsuna had planned a session live for December 28th, 2017 but the live will take place without him.

I see. I really want to know how this turns out. All that stuff with Kawatani Enon earlier this year made me curious about the Japanese legal system.
