Utada Hikaru To Provide First Movie Theme Song In 5 Years For

Utada Hikaru will be providing the theme song to the upcoming movie "DESTINY Kamakura Monogatari".

The upcoming movie is an adaptation of the 80s manga series "Kamakura Monogatari" which will star Masato Sakai as Masakazu Isshiki, a mystery novel writer living in Kamakura. He and his wife Akiko, played by Mitsuki Takahata, solve cases happening around them.

Takashi Yamazaki serves as the director of the movie, and is also one of its writers. He offered Hikaru the opportunity to provide a theme song for the film.

Hikaru was given the script to the film before working on the theme song. She came up with the original track "Anata", and recorded and produced the song over the summer in London.

This is the first time Hikaru has provided a theme song for the movie in 5 years. The last time this occurred was in 2012 when her song "Sakura Nagashi" was used as the theme song for "EVANGELION:3.0 YOU CAN (NOT) REDO".

Hikaru's song "Anata" will be released on December 8. "DESTINY Kamakura Monogatari" will be released the following day, December 9.

A trailer for the movie featuring Hikaru's new song has been released. Check it out below:
