AKB48 member Mayu Watanabe has announced that she will be graduating from the group.
Watanabe made the decision to graduate from the group in April, but had not publicly announced it until taking the stage to give her speech at the 9th annual Senbatsu General Election.
With her graduation, the no members of the original "Kami 7" - consisting of Atsuko Maeda, Yuko Oshima, Mariko Shinoda, Mayu Watanabe, Minami Takahashi, Haruna Kojima and Tomomi Itano - will be left in the group. The "Kami 7" refers to the 7 most popular members of the AKB48, and first came about in 2009.
A date has not been set for Watanabe's graduation; however, it is expected to occur within the year.
