AKB48 Officially Cancels 9th Senbatsu General Election Event

Heavy rains and lightning storms have forced AKB48 to officially cancel its 9th Senbatsu General Election event.

The group's staff issued a warning yesterday that conditions could warrant the cancellation of the event. With weather reports not showing an 80% chance for heavy rain and lightning, organizers have decided that the safety of guests could not be ensured, and cancelled the event accordingly.

AKB48 was supposed to hold an outdoor concert at Okinawa's Toyosaki Seaside Park SUN Beach, followed by the ranking announcements. Set up for the event had already begun prior to the event's cancellation.

Although the event is cancelled, the Senbatsu General Election ranking announcement will continue at a back up location. The announcement will be broadcast live on Fuji TV.

People who had bought tickets to the event will be able to watch the ranking announcements at the home theaters of AKB48, SKE48, NMB48 and NGT48, as well as HKT48's temporary theater at Nishitetsu Hall.

AKB48 will be refunding people who had bought tickets to the Senbatsu General Election event.

Voting for the 9th Senbatsu General Election has officially ended. The ranking announcement will occur on June 17.
