Subsequently, two of her other compositions and all composed and performed by her were featured as main and sub-theme song for the MediaCorp TV Channel 8’s Drama Serial “New Beginnings” starring Jeanette Aw and Tay Ping Hui . Wo zuo you (By My Side) was nominated for Best Drama Theme Song at the Star_Awards_2011.
Another composition of hers titled "LaLa" was also used as the jingle for F&N Fun Flavors soft drinks. Serene was also featured in the Chinese New Year TV Commercial for FNN Fun Flavors Soft Drinks.
In May 2010, she released her debut mandarin album, <<55:38:7>>, which produced a few top ten hits on radio music charts in Singapore and Malaysia. Amongst which was her widely popular single 《Ming Zhi Wo Ai Ni》,which peaked at No.3 on Y.E.S. 93.3FM. Her duet with Jaycee Chan, for which the melody was penned by Serene, rap by Jaycee received a wide following on the internet community, generating a huge number of hits on YouTube. This song is reported to be Mr and Mrs Jackie Chan's favourite song in Jaycee Chan's album.
In September 2010, she sang the theme song for "Love Cuts" the movie starring Zoe Tay and veteran Hong Kong actor Kenny Ho. Written by Eric Ng and Xiaohan, this song peaked at No.3 on Y.E.S. 93.3FM.
The chart performances of both her songs placed her in 2nd position for Y.E.S.933's 3rd Quarterly Top 5 Female Artistes for 2010, after Jolin Tsai.
Music career
Serene plays the piano since a tender age. Having performed at local pubs for sometime, she started writing her own originals. Shortly after, she joined the melody composing class in Funkie Monkies Pop Music School (whose founders are renowned arranger/producer/song-writer Eric Ng, and award winning lyricst Xiaohan) and was subsequently signed as a song-writer under the label. She continued to pursue her passion as a singer-songwriter over the years.
In May 2009, she was roped as a backup vocalist on renowned Singaporean singer Stefanie Sun's "The Answer Is..." World Tour It was also during that time Serene started to work on her debut album <55:38:7> and it was finally released on 14 May 2010. All 10 songs were composed by the singer-songwriter, and she was also heavily involved in the arrangement and creative process. close
