Arisa became a child model at the age of 4, appearing often in magazines and TV commercials. She made her debut as an actress in April 1991 in the TV drama Mou dare mo Aisanai. Her first single, Densetsu no Shoujo, composed by Ami Ozaki, (famed for penning songs for Anri and Seiko Matsuda), was released in May and she won Best Newcomer at the Nihon Record Taishou that year. She also provided vocals for the successful anime Sailor Moon last ending song, in the Sailor Stars season: Kaze Mo, Sora Mo, Kitto.
Mizuki earned much popularity from her commercials that she and two other popular actresses, Miyazawa Rie and Makise Riho, were given the nickname "3M" (Mizuki, Miyazawa and Makise). In 1992 she appeared for the first time as the leading role in the drama "Houkago" which became a big hit. She also starred in the popular drama series Nurse no Oshigoto (which after spawning 4 seasons, was made into a movie, Nurse no Oshigoto The Movie in 2002).
Other popular dramas Mizuki starred in are, Boy Hunt (1998), Watashi wo Ryokan ni tsuretette (2001) and Oniyome Nikki (2005). She has released over 20 singles that were used as the theme songs for the dramas she starred in.
Mizuki starred in the drama Oniyome Nikki 2 Ii Yu da na back in April 2007. In January 2008, She starred in the hit TV drama adaption of the popular manga, "Saito-san", for which she recorded the theme song "ENGAGED", over 2 years since her last single.
