    Officially known by her stage name J,Chung Jae Young (born May 2, 1977) is a K-pop R&B/Soul artist whose known for her unique soft voice color. She used to attend Univ. of Nova. As a Korean-American, she was discovered in a beauty pageant for Koreans in Washington D.C. That allowed her to sing on stage which got the attention of a music producer from Korea. Her first album "J-Gold" and "J-Blue"(R&B/Hi-Hop) came out in 1998. Because at that time the dance music was supersaturated, her album wasn't a great hit . It wasn't until her second album In L.O.V.E., that she achieved success, with her lead single, a beautiful R&B/Ballad number "어제처럼" (Just like Yesterday) ranking #1 on various Korean TV network charts. The album influenced Korean music industry to import R&B rhythm from the States. Her 3rd album "Beautiful ones" was released in the summer of June. J took part in producing in her 3rd album, but the album didn't brought her much success.

    After releasing her 4th album, Dim the Lights, J went back to the U.S to take a break and refill her soul and improve her musical technics. Then after two years, in 2004, J released her 5th album The Crush of Love. She wrote four tracks of the album. She again brought trendy R&B sound from oversea, but there weren't space for her to stand in accordance of depression in music industry.

    After that, referring to her quote She was even "considering seriously about retiring". But her "infinite love toward music" led her to stand and sing again. In 2006, J sang the duet "Perhaps Love", the theme song for Princess Hours (Goong), with HowL; due to the drama's popularity, the O.S.T became popular as well. In January 2007, She released a Contemporary Christian Music album In My Lifetime. She tried an unusual genre to be recorded in CCM. The album was filled with R&B/Hip-Hpop tracks covered with J's unique voice.[2] Then, in the summer of 2007, a digital single Template: 눈물로(With Tears), which was featured by Lee Jung, was released. The song ranked #1 in "MELON" download chart for weeks, making a hit. Her 6th album, In Love Again, was released on November 8, 2007. The lead single, "열흘만" ("Just Ten Days"), was a ballad song, going against her R&B career. She followed up with "술과 순정" ("Drink and Naive"), a hip-hop flavored song. Though the album was mass appealing, It didnt earn J much success. close
