Aska Yang's bio

Aska Yang was born on April 4, 1978 in Taoyuan, Taiwan. He finished his university study in the National Changhua University of Education (NCUE), with a major in Guidance & Counseling. During his study at NCUE, he attended many singing contests and won some prizes.

He is now studying a Master Degree program in the Sports Psychology Department at the National Taiwan Sport University (NTSU).

Aska Yang first burst into fame in Taiwan by being the most popular contestants in One Million Star (Season 1), a top rated TV singing contest program. He rendered many hit songs in the competition such as “Goodbye My Love (再見我的愛人)”, “Hostage (人質)”, “Betrayal (背叛)”, “Endless Love(New Editon) (新不了情)”, etc. Video clips of his live performance, being posted on youtube, gained hundreds of thousands of views. However, while he had emerged as one of the top six finalists in the competition, the news media uncovered much of his personal background and harbored suspicions about his real age. He publicly admitted he had falsified his age and then quit the competition.

Nevertheless, the final ten contestants, including Aska Yang, had released two compilation albums, namely “Stars Reunion (星光同學會-超級星光大道10強紀念合輯)” and “Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow (愛.星光精選-昨天 今天 明天)” in June and October respectively. Aska performed a total of four songs in both album.

Later in the year, he was involved in a tense contract dispute with his manager, Hsu An-chin. Because of the press attention, his name was frequently mentioned in the entertainment news headlines, in a sensational way, throughout the whole year of 2007. For example, he was ranked second in "Person of the Year" by Yahoo!Taiwan and was also listed in a book called "Who’s Who in the ROC, 2007-2008".

After reaching a new agreement with his manager in end 2007, his musical career formally started. He released his first solo album, titled “Dove”, in January 2008, and it became the best-selling album in the first half of the year. Hit songs from this album include "Onion (洋蔥)", "Dove (鴿子)", "Breeze of Happiness (幸福的風)", "Let You (讓)" and "Love Temptation (對愛渴望)". His fan base began to expand to other regions like Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong. Aska also held his first solo concert in Taipei Arena in May 2007, just four months after the release of his first album.

However, after the solo concert, he was embroiled in conflict with his manager again. The dispute resulted in a sudden pause in his career. In October 2008, Aska Yang formally announced the termination of his contract. While attempting to resolve the outstanding contract issues by going to court, Aska restarted his music career in early 2009. He held a mini-concert in Taipei on 11 January and also began performing in shows and events, such as TV shows, concerts and musical play. Outside the entertainment business, he is currently pursuing a master's degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology at the Graduate Institute of Physical Education of National Taiwan Sport University. close
