  After hitting it big last year with their single "Shunkan Sentimental" being used as the 4th ending theme song for "Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood", SCANDAL's success has only grown, making the four member all-girl-band one of JpopAsia's top artists. With three new singles in 2011 ("Pride", "Haruka", and "Love Survive"), as well as a new album ("Baby Action"), SCANDAL has managed to win five JIMAs this year: Favorite Artist/Band, Best Single ("Love Survive"), Best Album ("Baby Action"), Best Girlband and Most Promising Artist/Band.

  There's no stopping Jin Akanishi. After sweeping away many of the awards last year, the hottie is proving that his popularity remains unwavering.
  
  The 27-year old is showing no signs of slowing down as he continues on his pursuit of a solo career after his departure from KAT-TUN. As of December 2010, Akanishi has worked with Warner Music Group, with plans to kick-start his debut in the United States. On November 8th 2011, he released his debut single "TEST DRIVE", which featured Jason Derulo. The upbeat single has made its way to the top of the iTunes Dance Album chart, while the Japanese release of the track made it to the fourteenth spot on the Japan Hot 100 chart. In addition to his singing career, Akanishi has also ventured into the art of acting. He will be playing a role alongside Keanu Reeves in the upcoming Hollywood blockbuster "47 Ronin".
  
  Despite keeping a hectic schedule, Akanishi doesn't forget his many fans around the world. He brings them along on his journey through the help of the many social media platforms. Fans can find him on his Twitter (where he holds many a fun conversation with his celebrity-friends like BoA, etc.), YouTube (where he has a web series "The Takeover"), and Facebook.
  
  It comes as no surprise that Akanishi won for Best Male Solo Artist as well as the award for Best Use of Social Media. Congratulations to Jin Akanishi, and here's wishing him an equally fabulous 2012!

  2011 was another memorable year for YUI and her fans. YUI flew to Sweden for the filming of the music video for "Your Heaven" and also performed her first overseas concert in Hong Kong. She composed two songs that were used in the movie Paradise Kiss. Her album HOW CRAZY YOUR LOVE became her fifth number one selling album. JpopAsia also gave the album a listen and gave it a positive review.
  
  In the JpopAsia International Music Awards last year, YUI only made it to the second place in several categories. This year, YUI fully deserved the votes that got her in first place for Best Female Solo (JIMAs 2010 2nd place). Her work, especially her album in which she wrote almost all the songs landed her Best Musical Ability (JIMAs 2010 2nd place). Among all her musical talent and success, who wouldn't want YUI as their partner? Fans also voted her as Sexiest Female Singer (JIMAs 2010 2nd place) and Most Want-to-be Girlfriend.

  Keeping their defenses strong, KAT-TUN has yet again taken the lead position for Best PV of 2011.
  
  Set in what it looks like an old asylum or a mad scientist's laboratory, the boys are locked up in different cells and are made to undergo all sorts of experiments. There is a room with an eye test, a room filled with electric wires, an audio room, a room where time stops, and probably the most cruel one – an ice room. The PV comes to an end with the appearance of a magical cube, and the boys manage to escape successfully.
  
  Cold colours and props (such as frozen flowers and fish in a tank, that would have looked completely out of place in a different setting, but fits in here perfectly) used in the video helped to convey the feeling of confusion, darkness and loneliness of being trapped in a cage. Although there's not much of a story-line to this music video, a nicely executed dancing sequence ("shuffle dance" move was the "it" thing in 2011) and an interesting set made it a win-win situation.

  2010's runner-up, boy band KAT-TUN, has managed to secure their position at the very top this year. This comes as no surprise as the boys had an amazing 2011.
  
  They have released a total of four singles - "Ultimate Wheels", "White", "Run For You" and "Birth". The boys had two live tours - five big dome tours in Japan and an Asia tour (with stops in Thailand, Taiwan, and Korea). They were part of Johnny's Company charity project "Marching J", aimed at raising money for the Tohoku Earthquake victims. KAT-TUN was also confirmed to host a new TV show "Zettai Manetaku Naru TV", their first show since "Cartoon KAT-TUN".
  
  In addition, 2011 also marks the band's 5th anniversary. They have certainly come a long way, performing eleven shows per day (KAT-TUN still hold this record in Japan for the most performances in one day) and multiple times on Music Station before debuting. It's hard to believe that KAT-TUN was only meant to be a temporary support unit at its conception, but thanks to the enormous effort and love the fans showered upon them, they have become what they are now. Their hard work have paid off - all of their singles, albums and music DVD releases have debuted at the #1 spot on the Oricon music and DVD charts. KAT-TUN's official anniversary date is on 22nd of March, be sure to congratulate them!

  Johnny's youngest group, "Sexy Zone" only made their debut late last year and the group is already fast becoming many international fans' favourite band! They have topped the Oricon charts with their first single, "Sexy Zone". Their popularity is clearly evident, earning them the Best new artist/band of 2011 for this year's JIMA awards.   The Gazette is a five-piece visual kei rock band formed back in 2002. They are currently signed under Sony Music Japan. Their usual musical style is rock but they are not afraid to try new things, for example: heavy metal, alterative metal, nu metal, hard rock, pop rock. In their latest album, the band even experimented with dubstep.
  
  The band has released five studio albums and twenty one singles (so far), with many of them landing on the top spots of the Oricon Charts.

  Miyavi made his debut at the young age of 17 in the visual kei band Due le Quarz. In 2002, after a name change and under new managment, he decided to pursue a solo career with the album "Gagaku". His first successful single "Ashita, Genki Ni Nare" was released in 2004 and reached the number one spot on the charts.
  
  Miyavi is also part of the band S.K.I.N, together with other Japanese rock legends like Yoshiki from X-Japan, Gackt and Sugizo from Luna Sea.
  In 2009, he announced that his decision to leave PS Company and launch his own company, J-Gram, Inc. In the same year, he announced his marriage with Japanese singer Melody. They now have two beautiful daughters, Lovelie Miyavi Ishihara and Jewelie Aoi Ishihara.
  
  Thanks to his strong fanbase here on JpopAsia, Miyavi has deservedly won three awards: Best Solo, Best Musical Ability and Sexiest Rocker.

  The Suicide Circus is the title song of The Gazette's 5th album which was released on 5th October of 2011.
  
  As the title implies, the music video portrays the insane circus theatrics featuring a foreign man that explores the surrounding while seated on an armchair. The circus scenes were filmed at night and featured lots of little lights and bokeh. During the chorus, Ruki is seen wandering around whilst being followed by clowns and jugglers. The song is fast paced and has an interesting mix of rap and rock, complete with strong lyrics.

  Versailles has come a long way since they formed in 2007.
  
  Formed by Kamijo (Lareine), Hizaki (Sulfuric Acid) and Jasmine You (Jyakura), the three would later be joined by Teru (Aikaryu) and Yuki (Sugar Trip). After releasing the details of the band in March 2007, June would roll around and Versailles released their first single and DVD single "The Revenant Choir". They would go on to sign with CLJ Records, a German record label, to release their first album Lyrical Sympathy in Japan and Europe on Halloween. Several singles and albums later, it was announced on August 9th, 2009 that Jasmine You had passed away. The song, "Serenade", was written and dedicated to Jasmine with a memorial ceremony held in his honor. The release of their major label debut album would be released in the beginning of 2010 with Masashi, a support bassist for the band, officially joining them in September 2010.
  
  In January 2011, Versailles starred in their own TV mini drama, Onegai Kanaete Versailles, and would air until March with the second album, Holy Grail being released in March.

  "Toxic" is The Gazette's 5th studio album. It was released on the 5th October 2011. The album includes four previously-released singles, which are "Shive", "Red", "Pledge" and "Vortex". The album debuted at #3 on the Oricon Daily Charts and #6 on the Oricon Weekly Charts, selling 25,412 copies in its first week.
  With this album, The Gazette got back to their old school style of heavy metal tracks while showing that they can perform ballads just as well.

  Coming in third last year, X-Japan has fought their way up to the top position this year. After disbanding in 1997, the band did not perform or record any material for ten years. However, in 2007 they re-united and performed live for the first time. All seemed to be going well - the band announced a new tour, a new single was in the works, they released a song titled "I.V." which was used as the theme song of the American horror movie "Saw IV", and they have made plans for concerts in Paris, New York City and Taipei. However, that was all not meant to be due to Yoshiki's health condition. Although all the concerts were re-scheduled, they had to be postponed until further notice.
  In 2009, X-Japan welcomed a new member - Sugizo, and things finally started to look up. The band announced their sixth album, four new music videos for "Rusty Nail", "Endless Rain", "I.V.", and their new song "Jade" were shot in the U.S. The band also had to fight with their company - Nexstar Corporation, which owed them large sums of money. They also went on their first ever North American tour.
  
  In January 2011, it was finally announced that X Japan had signed a 3-year agreement with EMI. The band's new single "Jade", was released in June 2011 after being postponed due to the Tohoku earthquake. Later, in the same month, X-Japan started their European tour, and continued with their world tour's South American and Asian concerts.
  Now that is some comeback! This legendary band definitely deserved to win Best Rock Band more than anyone. Let's keep supporting them!

  It's no wonder that The Gazette won the Best Rock Act award at this year's JpopAsia International Awards as they have a big repertoire of musical styles. They've got into heavy metal wit the song "Ogre", alternative metal with "Taion, "Carry" and "The Invisible Wall", hard rock with "Nakigahara" and "Dim Scene", punk rock with "Shikureta Haru, Kawarenu Haru" and "Wakaremichi", nu metal with "Burial Applicant", "The Suicide Circus" and "Agony", but they also tried more heavier music as metalcore and crossover trash with "Discharge", "Headache Man" and "Maximum Impulse". They totally deserve it! Congratulation The Gazette!

  After releasing five albums and twenty-one singles, almost all of them have topped the Oricon Charts. They have performed at Nippon Budokan in 2006, 2009 and 2010, Yokohama Arena in 2006, Yoyogi National Gymnasium in 2007, Saitama Super Arena in 2009, the legendary Tokyo Dome in 2010 and last but not least they have performed at Beethovenhalle in Bonn, Germany in 2006.
  Despite having achieved all these things, The Gazette still has a lot more to show that's why they have been voted as the Most Promising Rock Act on JpopAsia International Music Awards.

  This years Best Musical Ability goes to Miyavi but I believe that's no surprise with those crazy guitar skills, awesome voice and a lot of energy and charisma. He is part of the legendary group "S.K.I.N." along side Yoshiki, Gackt and Sugizo. He also started his first wordwide tour with performances in North and South America, Europe and Asia. The tour was composed of 33 cities in 14 countries over a 3 month period with a distane traveled of approximatelly 48,385 miles(77, 868 km). The majority of the concerts were sold out and covered by more than 200 media organizations. After seeing all these things I'm sure most of you will agree with the results. Congratulations Miyavi! Oh and this is his second year in a row winning this award! Yay!

  DEATHBIE (also known as AYABIE's darker alter-ego) is a four-member Japanese rock band. The band is made up of Yamadadesu (Vocals & Guitar), Alps (Guitar), Karasu (Bass), and D.novem (Drums). The band formed back in 2008, when they were still in Ayabie, but did not release anything during that period. They have performed Ayabie's harder songs like "Sanbyou". When AYABIE announced that they would go major, they also made the announcement that DEATHBIE would be officially starting activities and would release a single. Under BLOODY CHAOS RECORDS, the band debuted with the single "Senketsu no MARIYA", which was released on 27th July 2011.

Besides music, Miyave has modeled for Gothic & Lolita Bible and Focus and he is regularly feautured in J-rock magazines. To keep his body in shape he drinks orange juice and practices tai chi every day. Despite having a loud personality and being 185 cm (6'1") tall, he is very shy and gentle.
